Cowboys' Barber, Jones in same backfield?

The Cowboys are playing around with using Marion Barber and Felix Jones -- something it did sparingly last season when the two were healthy -- on the field at the same time. It doesn't have to be in traditional, two-back sets, either; Jones has the flexibility to split out and motion into or out of the backfield.

Didn't they also insert the wildcat into their offense?

Not sure. If they did, having the two of them in there makes sense. Otherwise, it doesn't all that much. The loss of Jones hurt the Cowboys a lot more than what people imagine. We brought a new dimension to the offense. When he went down, the Cowboys didn't have a home run hitter anymore so defenses played tighter box.

They have played around with it this offseason yes. Choice as the QB.

They did. It would make for an interesting pair in the backfield if they try this idea. Quite a combination ala Jones/McFadden at Arky. Barbers a bruiser and Jones is electric. It would be fun to watch and with them both on the field it opens up Witten a little more.

Agreed, if Garrett calls it.

Garretts gonna be/is a good OC. Last year would have been a nightmare to call for anyone. Ailing Witten, poor OL play due to injury (Kosier was a killer although Holland is giving him all he can handle right now), injured barber and jones, working with TO ego.

No wonder he became one dimensional and predictable. Hard not to under the circumstances.

Both of those dudes are going to redefine the phrase 1-2 punch.

July 5, 2009  02:30 PM ET

Its a simple equation, in the NFL you cannot run the ball without a credible passing game and you cannot pass the ball without a credible running game. The objective is to spread them out and exploit the weakest point with your strength. I do not miss the popcorn pinheads at all but I don't know if Dallas can field a passing game with what they have. I'm crossing my fingers but I would feel better if they had traded up (or down) for a smokin' hot receiver. Win loss or draw it is good to be free of the popcorn pinhead.

What? If they can't field a passing game with Witten, Romo, Williams and good receiving backs, they have much, much larger issues.

Miami did ok with the wildcat against teams like SF,KC etc. but the good D's feasted on them The same will happen to the Cowboys in the East and they'll beat up on the weaker teams.

Maybe the Ravens should do what the Steelers did to win their first four super bowls. SHOOT UP WITH STEROIDS. That's an excellent example for all the high school players. Maybe the referees will help them like they did for the Steelers against the Seahawks and Cardinals. Better yet, watch how the Ravens beat the Giants to win thew super bowl. THEY BEAT THEM, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. THEY WIN THE OLD FASHIONED WAY, THEY EAAAAARN IT. As far as Ryan(cheap shot) Clark goes, he should have been banned from the super bowl and half of this year for a helmet to helmet shot. If you can't tackle a person without a cheap shot you shouldn't even be allowed to play.

Wow. Both guys on the field at once. That is innovation.

I also hear that instead of ladelling water out of wooden buckets for the players they Cowboys are going to a space-age plastic bottle that will squirt a liquid jet into their mouths.

Another technological innovation. Where can I get such a marvelous bottle?
