As a youngster, Titans quarterback Vince Young grew up idolizing Steve McNair. He attended his football camps, and looked to him as a mentor. He even called him "Pops.'' Like so many others, however, Young is now having a hard time dealing with news of the death of the former Titans quarterback. McNair was found dead Saturday from multiple gunshot wounds in a condominium on Second Avenue. Police on Sunday ruled the death a homicide. Young was out of the country when he got word of McNair's death.

Not again, Vince, not again!

Maybe the greatest mentoring lesson McNair can teach is to stay faithful to your family.

I was under the impression that Young didn't do all that much thinking.

Like the others, I agree. I just hope he doesn't use this as yet another excuse for his subpar play.

Young is already unstable.. hopefully someone gets to him before he gets to himself

Why is everyone quick to make a joke of it? Young looked at him like a father. You can't expect him to take it hard. Everyone here in Nashville is taking it pretty hard. Why not root for a man when he is down? Some of you always want to kick a man when he is down. My goodness.

A Father? Really? I don't think I would make the team my father plays for pay me so much money that they have to release him.

Young is what we can expect from this generation of kids who were raised thinking placing 7th made them a winner. They have been told since starting school that everyone is a winner there are no losers. The celebration of mediocraty(sp) had killed the notion that these kids will understand the real world. Add to the fact Young has been put on a pedistal for a while because he can remember to run and throw a ball adds to the problem. He is overly sensitive come on he had a nervous breakdown because he got boo-ed. What will happen now that he has experienced some real tradegy in his life?

I agree totally. VY definitely has his short-comings. I am Vince Young's biggest fan & I believe this tragic event will motivate him to become the best quarterback in Titan history. Most of you guys who are piling on Vince, I can almost guarantee have never played one down of Quarterback at any level (junior high, high school, college, hell even flag football). Playing QB is not easy. Granted, it is his job and he definitely needs to mature, but I believe he will come around and develop into a great QB. Steve McNair's untimely death will be a benchmark in Vince Young's life. He can handle it one or two ways. He can just give up and fade into oblivion or he can cowboy up and use Steve McNair's death as motivation and develop into an elite quarterback on the field and also avoid the pitfalls that Steve experienced off the field. I for one hope he chooses the latter!!!!

Why can't this just hit Vince hard without everyone critiquing his play? We know what he can't do already. Apparently Mcnair was his idol growin up and he is just grieving over the loss of someone important to him! C'mon guys!

Young is too dumb to get back having left the country. If McNair had kept his pants zipped he would still be alive. BIG DEAL!

July 6, 2009  10:39 AM ET

well we've all seen how sensitive of a young lady Young is, in the words of Artie Lang, WAHHHHHHHHH!!!

July 6, 2009  10:41 AM ET

Come on guys, Young has shown us what a sensitive young lady he is, be nice or he wont play! In the words of Artie Lang..... WAHHHHHHH!!!

It's too bad about McNair, but it is even worse about Vince Young... If he idolized McNair, don't you think he would have copied his game a little more closely... playing hurt, leading by example, and battling back from adversity... and don't say Young is still learning, because McNair started as a rookie and played at Alcorn State, certainly not the competition that Young had at Texas to get him ready for the NFL... Face it, poor Vince just doesn't have it to be a QB in the NFL!
