Her heart is filled with pain, yet Lucille McNair won't let the tragic death of her son ruin all her pleasant thoughts, and how Steve McNair made her so proud. The mother of the former Titans quarterback said on Sunday she's not concerned with who shot her son four times on Saturday, including twice in the head. "I don't want to know," Lucille McNair said in a telephone interview from her home in Mount Olive, Miss.. "Because the way I see it, it was the devil's work and not God's work."

They're the same thing

July 6, 2009  09:11 AM ET

Does the Devil have diplomatic immunity on earth?

July 6, 2009  09:18 AM ET

Oh people, please.

July 6, 2009  09:29 AM ET

Nice that police have announced that it was a homicide. Probly thought he was trying to outdo Plax

July 6, 2009  09:33 AM ET

Well that saves a lot of work for the local police.

Here we go again blaming everything and everyone but the two people here at fault McNair and his sancha. She shot him because he was going to end the ride with her and she did not want that to happen. Steve's Mom should take a hard look at the choices her son made and see that all that fame and money changed him and he was probally not the same sweet little boy she remembers. It is sad though no parent should have to bury their child, I do feel for the mom.

Vaughn9's comments are very harsh, but unfortunately very true. The whole thing is extremely tragic but you have to look at the situation in its totality. If he had been home with his wife and children would this have happened? I don't think so.

When I was a heavy drinker and out and about, bad things happened to me. Now that I don't drink and I stay at home and exercise and read mostly good things happen. Hmmmm.....I think there might be a connection

I agree wholeheartedly.

Devil in a red dress is more like it. Not to derail the topic, but I hate this kind of ignorance. There is no God, there is no Devil; there are only good and bad people in life. McNair associated himself with a very bad person.

First off, I send my condolences out to the entire McNair's Family. I am specifically sorry for his wife and kids. We all make choices in life, and sometimes the choices we make can be fatal. I Peter 5:8 states: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." Living a double life and unfaithful to your family is a choice that McNair made. So, when bad things occur in our lives, we can't always blame the devil. There are consequences to every choice we make in life; and, unfortuntely, McNair made a bad choice.

One of a Kind, well said. It's definitely the choices we make.

I posted this somewhere else and need to post it here. Let me make clear NOTHING makes this a deserved thing. You "MEN" crack me up let me see you married or not get women THROWN at you daily, nightly, every second of the day and see how long you stay "faithful" you know damn well you are as faithful as your options and Id guess if you looked in the mirror your options arent that great. Here is what I posted in the last article.

R.I.P Air McNair. Secondly my thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family and his friends. My thoughts and prayers also go out to the girl that appears to have taken his life and her own. Her family is dealing with this two fold, one that their daughter may be a murderer and two that she has committed suicide. All of you aholes can stand on your pedestal at your desks with your keyboards typing this and that about him being a faithful man but half of you know the facts. For one McNair and his wife were legally separated for some time, this has been reported today. For two half of you lardo's would bust one in your pants if a half way decent girl smiled at you, let alone beautiful women throw themselves at you every single minute of every single day so lets not throw stones. Jesus christ two people are dead here and one guy is mourning who cares if he sucks at football he lost a friend.....

Too True One of a Kind. It's sad that the price McNair paid was so high.

July 6, 2009  11:49 AM ET

People will make jokes but this is truly a sad sad situation for both families. This girl was clearly delusional and to take someone elses life and your own at the age of 20 says somethin about the society we live in. That McNair is the 36th person to be murdered in Nashville this year also says somethin about a country where far too many are victims of gun violence. Its not our place to judge this man or even his murderer. The most I can do is just hold on to the significance that Steve McNair as an African American Quaterback meant for me growiing up in a time when ,as draconian as it sounds, blacks were thought to not possess the mental fortitude to play the QB position. . Guys like Doug Williams , Warren Moon and Steve McNair made is socially acceptable for blacks to man the most important position on the football field and helped revolutionize the position ( along with their white contemporaries Steve Young , John Elway and a few others ) with their mobility and athleticism ...AIR MCNAIR RIP BABY!!!

Wanna go out sometime?

July 6, 2009  12:01 PM ET

I don't know if that was an attempt at being funny or not but I am a dude...... so sure why not ahhahahahahaha NO MAN WHATS WRONG WITH YOU

July 6, 2009  12:02 PM ET

Sure Lucille, if you think the "devil" is an INCREDIBLY average-looking, immature kid ... who was 16 years younger ... and NOT his wife ... or the mother of his 4 kids

Then ummm .. YEAH!
