D-Wade: Riley opened wound

Dwyane Wade's recent public criticism of the Heat's lack of roster moves so far this summer was in response to a painful stance team president Pat Riley took last month regarding the guard's contract status. Wade reiterated Thursday that no rift exists between the two, but he also said he did not agree with Riley's decision to hold off on any major roster upgrades until Wade commits to a long-term extension. 'Coach Riley opened up the wound when he said, `Until Dwyane signs back, we can't do anything,' '' Wade said Thursday.

Just be patient and let JO's contract run it's course (20 mil off the books).

They don't much else in terms of assets that i can think of. It would be a mistake to get rid of Haslem.

I gotta agree with Wade in this one...

July 10, 2009  08:00 AM ET

Either way 2010 will be huge for the Heat - if they keep JO through 09-10.

Pat Riley seems to think he can talk to anyone anyway...how else did he think his remarks would be taken? Now, we had Dwade without a real reason to leave except talent. Now Riley, by threatening the usually quiet Wade right before his signing year, has made Wade lukewarm on their relationship. This means Wade can think business like instead of thinking about the emotional ties he has with the Heat. Riley has taken all the wrong steps. When you have a great player, you don't threaten him or waste his years.

I've said this in the past. Riley just threatened DWade to sign long term or else he won't do anything. Riley was phhucked up when he said that. It's the GM's job to make the team better by surrounding his Superstar w/ players they can succeed w/. It should not matter if DWade signs or not. It's still the GM's job to make the team better. Riley went cheap when Shaq restructured his contract after the championship year. Riley didn't do his job and now he is threatening DWade.

I've been saying all along Wade & Lebron don't have to resign this summer as it's the only way they can force their managers to assemble better teams for them. Pat Riley called a bad play by saying he won't do squat until Wade resigns... what a joke... the guy has guaranteed money through 2011... he's obviously not going to fall for that trap.

Pat Riley is on the same hot seat as Dan Ferry but it hasn't hit him yet. If he doesn't act desperate like the Cavs are doing for Lebron Wade County the county will be without Wade. My perception of Wade has changed from a playboy to a smart business man like Lebron is...

They have to resign so the GM can know how much their price is going to be. This is business 101. If they dont re-sign now, they cant get talent.

If they get talent before the players re-sign, then they wont be able to afford the players when it comes time to get their deals done. The players have to trust management to do the right thing by them, but like everything else, its a money issue.

Get out of town now Wade......

July 10, 2009  09:14 AM ET

Wade will end up in Chicago next year playing next to Rose...

Shaq restructured his contract so that Riley can add talent to the team. Riley didn't follow through that's why DWade is so hesitant in resigning. I have a feeling there is some bad blood brewing. Riley is trying to put the burden on DWade and try to make him look bad.

Wade is going to stay with the Heat but Riley has to do something to make the Heat more than a playoff team. In order to contend, he has to get a big man to play alongside D. Wade.

no one cares...

I don't care what team D-Wade plays for, I just want him to have a chance in the playoffs.

Didn't Mickey Aryson say a few months ago that money is no object when it comes to getting his team to championship contention?
Where is Mickey and why isnt he speaking out on this.
Point blank period its hard to forget this team just won a title three years ago.
Iverson is now in talks with the grizzlies for goodness sake.
Riley should have gotten him cause he is the only available free agent that is affordable and Wade wants him there.
No other team can pay Wade more than his county so if im him I resign the extension, Iverson joins and then comes Bosh.

Boo hoo - poor wittle Dwyane.

I strongly agree...Riley is known for blaming the players...Walker's 1% fat, instead of the fact that he never drew up for a career was 19.6 ppg, Shaq for being lazy, instead of Shaq just not giving a damn because he didn't see any talent coming in, etc...

July 10, 2009  10:00 AM ET

Here's the facts..Riley can get help...he doesn't have to know how much Wade will cost, or Cleveland wouldn't be signing players, Lakers wouldn't, etc...What makes Miami's situation any different? Stop with the excuses for Riley.

Bottom line, Wade has never publicly complained until Riley made those stupid comments..Now I hear 'let him go', 'he's selfish', 'he'd better shut up and know his role', 'he has an attitude'. For 6 years you never heard anything like those comments, yet when Riley threatens him, people are quick to call Wade out as a bad attitude player just because he spoke back up for himself? Talk about brainwashed folks...
