Recruit picks Davidson over Notre Dame

06:30 AM ET 07.16 | Tom Droney doesn't believe he's the next Stephen Curry. But what Davidson College did for Curry's basketball career intrigues Droney. That's one of the reasons Droney made a verbal commitment to Davidson yesterday. Droney is a 6-foot-6, 197-pound guard at Sewickley Academy and the Post-Gazette Player of the Year. Pitt had offered Droney a scholarship before his junior year, but the Panthers cooled on him after recruiting other guards. Notre Dame also had offered, but Droney said he and the Fighting Irish had "kind of parted ways."

Wish the Cats would have knocked off one those local heavy ACC teams when they were stocked. Those chances dont come around often.

With him being a local kid, there was plenty of press on Droney. It looks like Davidson is getting both a quality player and young man. He really loved hometown Pitt and Jamie Dixon was high on the kid, but the Panthers already got a commit from one of the top point guards in the country next year.

Droney saw more opportunity at Davidson. McKillop is a very good coach. It could work out well for both of them.
