David Beckham let it be known Thursday that he has no intention of apologizing for his actions during the Galaxy's friendly match against AC Milan on Sunday night during which he confronted a group of disenchanted Los Angeles fans. In fact, Beckham said, it is up to some of those fans to change their behavior.

He is kind of right about them needing to change their behavior, but at the same time, he's being a bit of a prick about it.

You Suck Becks!!!

July 24, 2009  08:33 AM ET

This whole situation needs to end Becks doesnt like being here and apparently the fans dont want him here. its a waste of time to keep the facade that everyone is happy at L.A. It is just bringing out the worst in everyone

Does anyone think Ching is overrated? How many times does he lose possession?

I can't stand Ching for some reason. He's never really impressed me much and done things in the big games. He's not even a very good target forward since he can't lay the ball off to anyone. Sometimes his holding play is decent, but that's it. He should have had 2 goals last night and blew them.

Ching should serve as a visual example for our other strikers.... how to use your body to turn on net. That's what he brings to the team.... but overrated, sure.... but definitely has something to offer the squad still, but needs to be treated as someone that isn't target #1.....

Does Mr. Posh actually think the reaction would be different had he abandoned his commitment to a club in Europe without so much as a "by your leave"? He's getting off lightly in LA - imagine if he had left Milan, or Real Madrid, hanging in the balance like that! I believe the term "torch-bearing mob" would be an understatement to describe the suporters' reaction there.

Basically by saying the supporters need to change their attitude, he's basically telling them, "I don't take your club seriously as a club, and neither should you."

Do you think Dirk Kuyt is overrated too? Brian Ching is not Dirk Kuyt in terms of talent, but he serves a similar function - a striker who does a ton of dirty work by tying up defenders and fighting for loose balls, so by nature what he does looks sloppy and he will give away the ball being constantly outnumbered.

Now, if you want to critique his technical ability around the net, well then I'm all ears. Ching does not have the same ability of an Altidore or a Cooper who will go at defenders and have better output on the stats sheet because they put themselves in better body position to take shots. Ching, to his credit, is better in the air for set pieces and has a nice little snap header.

And we expected less from this loser?

July 24, 2009  09:55 AM ET

Soccer is just not as popular here as it is in Europe. He can get away with his shenanigans here because the majority of Americans are not die hard soccer fans and aren't insulted by his rude behavior. Let him pull this crap in Brasil or Argentina. They would pummel him to death with his old ladies breast implants.

What does he care, he made his millions and it is time for him to go home.

By whom? Based on every conversation I've ever been in or seen regarding Ching, no one rates him that highly--except for the Nats team coaches.

He is what he is--a hard-working, physical player who occasionally finds the goal. I think the issue with Ching is, much as with Cooper, that plenty of people would like him to be something he simply isn't.

July 24, 2009  10:19 AM ET

Who knows exactly what happened? Probably just a few people, and no one on here. But whatever it was, considering his experience and supposed professionalism, Beckham should have been able to walk on by.

Plus, he might have gotten pummelled without his flock of handlers. Who does he think he is--Ron Artest?

He is right. He shouldn't apologize. It makes for better theater for the rest of us. They stay mad at him, he continues to act like a stuck-up punk towards them. We get to watch the ridiculousness of it all and take solace in the fact that our teams aren't wasting millions of dollars on him (sorry LA fans).

July 24, 2009  10:35 AM ET

Neither should apologize. Both are wrong here, so who cares?

July 24, 2009  10:56 AM ET

This is all Landon "The Washed Up Player" Donovan's fault... Blame him!!

July 24, 2009  11:22 AM ET

dude ching should not go to WC2010. he receives the ball well, as good as anybody else really, but he never seems to do anything proactive after receiving the ball. he does hold in well at times but never seems to find the right pass. when he gets the ball near the box he panics and usually turns it over or sets up a bad ball for someone else to turn over. he just doesnt play with confidence and doesnt know when to pull the effing trigger and rip a shot. rogers also makes me scream at my tv. i dont understand the little bit of hype thats been around him lately. HE IS SOOOOOOOO WEAK ON THE BALL!!!! everytime he gets a pass he runs straight toward goal and is usually knocked off the ball and hits the turf like a weakling. subbing cooper in for rogers last night was a good move. i like cooper as a late, hard charging sub. i think cooper will be on the WC2010 squad.

i have undergone this argument in Bigsoccer.com for more time then i care to recall..... so i wont divulge into WHY or WHAT Ching's role is....

what i will confront is the "overrated" aspect to your quote....

few people truly hold Ching to a point where we could classify him as "Overrated".... most sympathetic to Ching hold him to the level he actually is.... we dont expect anything more then what Ching brings... if you cant figure out what Ching brings to the table then you must be blind.....

playing a target forward is not an easy job.... it is actually something more and more of our forwards are shying away from.... Ching plays 95% of the game with his back to the goal, getting fouled more often then not, distributing the ball to on coming players...... until our defense and midfield b/c more confident with dribbling and passing and stop the long ball, then ching will become obsolete.... until then, the US style (not recently but overall) of long ball and counter requires a target forward to be successful... the Confeds were the first series of games were we actually built up from the back rather then simply booting the ball forward...

IN SHORT: calling someone overrated simply points out that you dont rate the player.... doesnt mean that everyone feels the same way... he's not overrated IMO, b/c i dont rate him higher then what he truly is.... a slightly above average US target forward...

Becks is right and the rest of the 6.8 billion people on Earth are wrong so we might as well all start apologizing, Asia, you go first.
