07:27 AM ET 07.29 | During a closed-door meeting in owner Daniel Snyder's office in April, Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell listened attentively as Snyder voiced concerns about Campbell's performance last season. Snyder told Campbell he wants him to become a franchise quarterback, Campbell recalled Monday, but he has not reached that level yet in Snyder's opinion. Spurred by Snyder's assessment of him, Campbell took more initiative in setting the agenda for offseason workouts. He personally contacted receivers to participate in throwing sessions at Redskins Park and, in some cases, admonished players for lacking focus, many in the organization said.

"Snyder told Campbell he wants him to become a franchise quarterback"

Yeah, and that stripper told me she REALLY liked me as I was forking over $20s.

Snyder and company have shopped Campbell, and looked at TONS of other QBs over the last couple years. If you want a guy to play like a franchise QB, I dunno, maybe confidence would help. Let him feel secure in his job for a couple months.

And Jeff George...

Sounds like little Danny has taken Jason under his wing...

If he's going to take the next step, this should be the year. He actually has the same system & personnel for consecutive seasons. It's up to him - and Chico is right - they should be talking to Vick.

Even as a Cowboys fan i feel a little sympathy for Jason Campbell...

Me too - my Buddies (Redskins fans) rip this guy regularly. He's shown flashes that he can be a pretty good QB - I do want to see him take the next step, though.

Except on Nov 22 & Dec 27, of course...

As a Skins fan... I will say this.

DAN, you are an owner... it is ok to try and be friends with the players, but god sakes just let the people who know how to manage a football team and scout talent do their jobs and you stick to being rich and stop trying to buy good players and develop and scout for talent like most of the actual good teams around the league.

I get the feeling things are going to get ugly in DC this season.

Same scheme, coaches and receivers this year is the make or break year.

Perfectly stated. Seems like most 'skins fans would run the team better than their current front office. Lets hope Haynesworth is the last big-purchase for a while. Develop a core, don't swap in expensive pieces to fill holes every year.

Hey, he still might have his old 'Skins uniform tucked away somewhere...

Danny, how about you get JC some young offensive line talent, a capable 3rd pass catcher, and instead of trying to replace him all off-season. Fire the guy that has limited the help that he has around him. *Vinny C*. Campbell has shown that he can win in the NFL. For the next step to be take Devin Thomas needs to win the number 2 job and they need to replace both offensive tackle positions in the next two drafts. Think about it. Last time they drafted OT in the first round was Samuels and Jensen. That should speak volumes to how important having draft picks is Danny.

You know what? I'm TIRED of all these people criticizing Snyder for shopping J.C. around.
GET OVER IT we need to WIN NOW at all costs. Campbell had a 6 - 2 record at the midway point last year. A GOOD QB takes us in. Jason did NOT. I like him SOMETIMES but frankly; I REMAIN on the fence with this guy & the 3rd coming of #17 (Kilmer, Williams). SUre he's in his 2nd consecutive year with the same coaching staff for the first time since High School so this is THE LAST chance he gets. He's a free agent after this season so we shall see it the stars align.

That is how Campbell should have responded..."failed to qualify for the playoffs for the seventh time in Snyder's 10 seasons as owner. "...Maybe if he put a line in front of him ( he has not) , he would perform better..Actually, he is a decent QB..

With the uncapped year, I think one of the rules is you have to have been in the League for six years to be a FA..Campbell, and a lot of other players, will be caught up in that..

I have no problem with the big signing of Haynesworth, and the main reason is it's a step up from what Snyder has been doing from years. In Haynesworth, Snyder got a dominant DT who is the prime of his career. Snyder usually signs guys who are in their mid 30's with nothing left in the tank, and he's only signing a name at that point. If Snyder is going to spend money, I want to see him spend it on guys who are either coming into their prime or players who are currently in their prime, not players who are 2-4 years past their prime.

That is true; however, if Campbell doesn't perform well this season then I think the Skins will allow him to leave without any compensation in return. I believe at that point Snyder will want to cut his losses and let Campbell walk, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Snyder draft his favorite QB in the first round of next year's draft.

He was a good signing. Actually the Giants made a substantial offer to him, around $80 million total I believe..He changes everything.
