Shaq challenges Beckham
Jeered by ungrateful LA Galaxy fans, David Beckham is now being taunted by a true American sporting icon. Shaquille O'Neal, the NBA basketball legend, has challenged Beckham to a game of "soccerball" in a new all-star reality TV series, Shaq Vs, in which the hoop king takes on his sporting peers at their own game.

Hey great...something else to pull Beckham's commitments away from LAG / MLS.
Nice work Shaq-Fu.

At least it's involving someone other than Becks. Is it me or do some people think that Shaq just isn't that funny anymore. Plus, he won won titles with Bryant and Wade, so shouldn't we ask him if he can win a title being the star player for the team...couldn't do in "Orlando...

the only thing funny about shaq is his rapping and film career...and it's not because we are laughing with him either.

on another note, did anyone watch the all-star game?

Caught his appearance on WWE the other night by way of ESPN highlights. Very funny stuff. Maybe GB and his wife can make an appearance in the ring against the McMahon clan. All we need is Ali G.

I effing love Shaq. I know he is an acquired taste, but he is pretty entertaining overall. Shaq needs a show because you never know what could happen. I mean the guy Twitters he is going to a diner and treats whoever shows up to lunch. The stuff he says is hilarious too. I just can't hate him, even when he was a Laker.

The all-star game was pretty solid, even if the MLS team were playing all out of position. Would have liked more wing-play, but I won't complain too much. Tim Howard was a beast, as usual, so it stings less to see Everton win.
Next year it's in Houston... so I am thinking Club America would be a nice team to invite.

Everyone seemed to be playing out of position, it was crazy. I was mortified to see them stick Landon at striker after how great he has played on the wings this season for club and country. PLAY HIM WHERE HE IS PLAYING THE BEST DOMINIC!
I agree Howard was great and Keller wasn't too shabby either.
Lastly--no effing way do I want to see the MLS all-stars play any MExican club. There is already too much effing Mexican club games vs regular MLS teams in the CL and the Superliga thing. Enough is enough already... I want to see something less North American... I like that we play big Euro clubs--though I would also be open to playing a Boca Jrs or Corinthians---but I much prefer an Inter or a Real Madrid just for the spectacle of it all....

I would like to MLS reach even further south of Mexico and get a top Brazilian or Argentine team with a global following. Obviously the European teams have the star power, but in the longer run the CONMEBOL powers offer MLS a talent base of players that could eventually land on a domestic roster. Players that are more affordable yet more creative.

They are playing in Houston. A Mexican club would be a huge draw, even if I would hate to see it happen.
I like seeing pro MLS/US teams inside the states. It grinds my gears that you can't support the sport's teams in your country and/or city. I hated all of these Italian deebags around here in 2006 after the World Cup. Having an orange tan and wearing armani-exchange doesn't mean you're really Italian or even Euro-trash.

the all star game is a joke, why did they feel they absolutely had to declare a winner? they had unlimited subs, and even allowed players back in the game after they had been replaced, kinnear and moyes were basically making up the the rules as the went,
the whole pk thing with no et was a joke and the players clearly diidnt take it serious, anyone catch donovan mock celebration after his?
and to top it off, it looks like something didnt agree with ljunbgerg, back in the hospital with migraines, and will probably miss league games
this sideshow circus needs to go away,

Corinthians would be a good bet to get up there - especially if Ronaldo stays healthy and plays for a couple more years. The two biggest clubs down here in Brazil are Corinthians and Flamengo - though Sao Paulo's success recently probably has a lot of name recognition abroad. The payday would have to be fairly big, though; Brazilian clubs are about 1/3 of the way through their season at the moment.

I haven't watched the game, and I probably won't for the reasons you cite.
Why does MLS even have an all-star game? For the same reasons it has divsions and play-offs? To appeal to the American audience and draw in people? If so, I can't iamgine it works at all.
Maybe I just don't know about it, but does any other league in the world do this? The only time I ever hear of "all-star" type games is for benefits or testimonials.

No, you're pretty much right - the only time "all-stars" play together elsewhere is for benefits, testimonials, or even just for fun, and even then many times it's a case of throwing in a non-footballing personality for the novelty, like Michael Schumacher.

I think the MLS "All-star" game is more about bringing over a top tier European club team for a friendly than anything else. I'm all for bringing over a club like Chelsea or Everton or Celtic once a year for a game.

Thought for sure when I read the title, and after seeing him on the WWF the other day, that he was challenging him to a wrestling match. I had visions of Rocy Vs Thuder Lips running through my head.
And considering Basketball players through god awful punch's, and soccer players are dirty,I'm sure it would be very entertaining.

i love the current MLS All-Star Game format, for once a major sports league has figured out the all-star game. if the All-Stars were a team in the EPL, would they finish in the top 10?

just need to move it to a thursday night/ or weekend. plus, seeing the top flight clubs (everton almost there) like when they played chelsea would be a step up. instead of playing club america, how about some of the South American squads, MLS has been scouting down there for awhile.

I do like that part of it. However, I'd like to see them play regular MLS teams, or a strictly-American all-star team. I know that sounds overly jingoistic and if fraught with problems. But the way it works now, I don't see much benefit except as a silly spectacle.

I watched the All-Star game (it's hard typing that and not feeling it doesn't belong in soccer). For all those who tout the MLS record in this goofy affair, as in suggesting MLS can play with any club and hold their own, well there you go. Sure, it was PK's but what a farce with the subbing and all.
I'm a huge fan of MLS but have my feet squarely planted on the ground. This is a preseason exercise for these clubs and the MLS guys get up for it, almost opposite directions that level the playing field.
I can still recall the last time Thornton was in an MLS All Star event and they were doing "longest kick' competitions. I'm just glad that if they insist on this party, they did away with the antics.
Houston? My money's on America.
Hate to say it but the league will continue pandering to Mexico as if they're the only hispanics in the world. After the behavior of the pro Mexico crowd at Reliant during Gold Cup MLS will reward them with another appearance. Have to say it, someone's eye will get poked out if they keep it up.
As for Shaq and Becks. Becks will do it. He's a media ****/hound. BTW, so's Shaq.
