07:12 AM ET 08.04 | Nuggets guard J.R. Smith's tweets are raising questions among fans. Several recent posts by Smith on his page -- twitter.com/jr_smith1 -- are written in a way that is commonly associated with the Bloods street gang. Words that would have a "C" in them are replaced with "K," or if a word has both in them, the "C" is removed altogether. Smith has nearly 15,000 followers on his Twitter page.

Maybe he secretly joined the ****, or is just part of the phonetic spelling movement. Maybe he never learned the basic rules of spelling.

**** would be JR's way of writing CCC.

August 4, 2009  08:47 AM ET

I am just going with the logic that JR isn't an academic.

wow, great topic! i guess its pretty slow day in denver...

What? A professional basketball player MIGHT have gang ties? This from the "Water is Wet" department. Also in the news: Basketball players have an extraordinary amount of ink and listen to rap music.

Gang related tatoo wearing thugs in the NBA? Who would have thought that?

August 4, 2009  09:26 AM ET

The aforementioned racists views aside, Smith better be careful...especially here in L.A.

That's sad, he has all this success and can't let the streets go. The problem is that when you keep up that lifestyle it will catch up to you.

Couldn't have put it better myself.... LOL!!!

August 4, 2009  09:46 AM ET

Well, maybe he is a complete idiot and never learned to spell.

For some reason these knuckleheads seem to think that with all their success and money, they still need Street Cred. What a moron.

August 4, 2009  10:18 AM ET

I wouldn't be surprised if he JUST KAN'T SPELL. Pretty much all professional athletes are pushed through sKool and given the presidential treatment! Former BucKeye linebacKer Andy K couldn't pass BasKet weaving and Aids awareness but he still got a job in the pro's. Most of these guys are only in sKool beKause they have to not beKause they want to.
Lets give hime a breaK and drop all this gang Krap!

August 4, 2009  10:20 AM ET

This is a stupid topic!!

Uhhh these knuckleheads are mostly from the inner city projects and a lot of them only lived to see the NBA because of their street cred. It's easy for us to criticize but these guys still gotta go home. So yea JR Smith is a blood ... so is Stephen Jackson who can clearly be seen in a SMACK DVD or anywhere else wearing red bandanas talking bout what that red be like. Melo was on a DVD with known killers and drug dealers but those same dudes are the ones protecting him from other killers and drug dealer in Baltimore or Brooklyn who'd otherwise be extortin his ass .... regardless its the Denver Thuggets you gotta love it.

See from the outside lookin in it sounds easy but its not all that easy. Now im no gangster but think about it- these are the people you grew up with. These are your friends you hung with when you were 12 years old playin ball. 15 years old discovering girls, talkin about how did what with who. 18 years old, one of you finally got a car and you cruise around. Sure, you got into gang stuff too, but thats how it goes where these guys are from, just like in Idaho I'm sure you guys do little league or something. Right or wrong, thats how it is for these dudes.

Fast forward to now, dudes are rich, famous and fake friends, new people and tons of schemers tryin to get a piece of you are all over the place. Here are your friends, gangsters or not, that have always been by you and had your back and best interests at heart. Always looked out for you. You get rid of your old friends at the end of the day are the new ones gonna be any better? Can you trust any of these people who wanna be down with JR Smith or Carmlelo Anthony, NBA superstar? Plus you're just going to leave all your old friends in the dust because people who arent where youre from thinks its not cool? Perception = reality, its just all our perceptions are different so that makes the realities and rules we live by different.

Not tryin to make excuses but just tryin to give some perspective how it isnt so easy just to leave people behind.
