06:01 PM ET 08.04 | Poised to launch his return to tournament tennis in Montreal next week, Rafael Nadal says he's committed to helping Spain reach its second straight Davis Cup final. The second-ranked Spaniard said if his health holds up, he plans to play the Davis Cup semifinals next month. Spain is set to host Israel in the September 18-20th semifinal with the winner advancing to the December 4-6th final against either Croatia or the Czech Republic. Defending champion Spain, which will almost certainly stage the semifinal on red clay, is an overwhelming favorite in the semifinals. Spain has won 16 straight home ties and 18 consecutive ties contested on clay. Nadal, who dropped a total of 12 games in sweeping Janko Tipsarevic and Novak Djokovic to lead Spain to a 4-1 victory over visiting Serbia in the Davis Cup first round in March, said he is committed to Davis Cup cause. "Davis Cup is always on my calendar," Nadal told the Spanish sports daily Marca. "Provided I don't suffer any setbacks, and am selected, I would play Montreal, Cincinnati, US Open and Davis Cup."
