Vanek played junior hockey in Alberta, so was a good option for long term deal. Don't doubt he owes Sather a favor for Nedved three years ago, but this doesn't pass the smell test. Obviously diplomacy is not KLowe's strong suit. He tends to think too much like a player, with player instincts and loyalties instead of a cool headed administrator, which is absolutely necessary to be successful in this business. I'm not sure Lowe can separate the two.

That's pretty bad logic. The guy didn't go after his friend's golie when he needed a forward - ipso facto he let his personal feelings get in the way?
