Hard to believe that this guy would have been the #1 pick in the 2005 NFL draft that is. Sorry, brain tired.

With the exception of Carson Palmer, who was good (albeit with two all-Pro receivers to throw to) before his injury, when has any QB out of USC under Pete Carroll ever amounted to anything? They run a West Coast offense (i.e., a system that makes weak armed QB's look better than they really are) and always have one or 2 dangerous backs so that teams have to bring the 8th defender into the box on almost every down, leaving a lot of space for dump offs that make the numbers look good for the passer, especially since USC plays a cupcake PAC-10 schedule that features no good defenses, so RAC yardage also increases the stat inflated. So basically, the numbers for USC QB's are inflated 100 different ways.
And all that is without even mentioning the discussion of how Carroll looks the other way at 100 kinds of cheating, so it is almost certain that his linemen are all juicing heavily on HGH and other undetectables so that their QBs are rarely under pressure at any time either. And yet USC QBs are the toast of the town when at USC, and their prima-donna personalities are fully formed even before achieving any success at all against real competition in the NFL.
I'm interested to see Sanchez play this year because he comes from a blue-collar background and may have a work ethic. Unfortunately for him, he is playing in the AFC East against defenses designed to slow down Brady and the Pats, so he is in for a rough go regardless of his OK performance against preseason backups this past week (chill out Jest fans).

He may have been an improvement over the #1 of 2005, Alex Smith.

Looking over the draft, 2005 was probably the year of the linebacker.

It was the year that brought the Giants the Superbowl in 2007. round 2: Corey Webster ( Favres favorite receiver) 3: Justin Tuck 4th-Brandon Jacobs.
Matt Cassel came in the 7th round that year.

Agreed. If you have difficulty throwing the ball to Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, there is no place for you in this league.

I realize you said Palmer was good before his injury but I"m not sure of the reasoning behind saying he had two all pro receivers to throw to, as if that is the only reason why he is good. I'm pretty sure that Leinart hasa couple of All Pros to throw to and it doesn't seem to be doing him any good.

Carson Palmer had one year with Pete Carroll and was not a Pete Carroll choice.
You got to remember Paul Hackett was the USC head coach when Carson Palmer came in.

Leinert just needs somebody like Reggie Bush around to push him.
Into the end zone. That's a joke. See what I did there?
