08:36 AM ET 08.30 | The Browns are interested in trading defensive end Corey Williams, who doesn't seem to fit in the two-gap style preferred by Eric Mangini.

And he didn't know this 2-3 weeks ago? Some coach.

Now is not the time to try and fill gaps in the D, This should have been taken care of in the Spring. His numbers in Green bay were ok but last year he did not play very well, Hell, Neither did the rest of the team. What do they think they are going to get for him?

This always happens when a new coaching staff comes in. You look in a year or two almost all of Romeo's and Savage's players will be gone.

I thought the offensive line played a two-gap style last year.

OK LobsterBoy, you're right. It was a turn-style offensive line.

When did his position get moved ?, trading defensive end Corey Williams, when he was with the Packers Corey was a Defensive Tackle in the 4-3. guess Coach Eric Mangini, does Not Know where Corey Plays, that could be the problem. Ted Thompson / Pack traded Corey for a second round pick, cause Corey wanted a Too BIG of a contract

In a 4-3, the tackle shades the outside of the guard and plays the B gap and only the B gap. In a 3-4, the end generally plays the inside shade on the tackle, and is responsible for both the B and C gaps, thus the 2-gap terminology. In a 3-4 the nose tackle has both A gaps, in a 4-3 the nose tackle has one A gap. So a 3-4 end plays in a similar spot to a 4-3 tackle, but with a very different technique. The role of the end in a 4-3 is played by one of the outside linebackers, depending on how many rushers they bring and whether they blitz. So, you can question the wisdom of converting a 1 gap player to a 2 gap player, but not the naming of the positions. Very few colleges play with a 2 gap defensive line technique ( used in a 3-4, 50, and some others), which is why there is all of that discussion at draft time about converting linemen to a 3-4 and defensive ends to outside linebackers in a 3-4.

GO BROWNS!

Thanks for the good info, I don't know much about how the D line works so posts like this make sense of the way teams draft and how positions are filled. Great post and GO BROWNS!

Has anybody here seen my old friend Eric
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He released a lot of people, but they say the good go young
I just looked around and he's gone.

Apologies to the ORIGINAL Dion, (not Deion).

I give Mangina 2 years, and two more doghouse finishes.
