06:16 AM ET 08.31 | The White Sox finally ruled that Jake Peavy won't make his debut Thursday at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. The hope is that the right-hander won't be ruled out to pitch for the Sox this week. In his fourth rehab start for Class AAA Charlotte on Saturday, Peavy was shut down after 3 1/3 innings because of tightness in his right elbow, which was stung by a comebacker last Monday. The goal was to get him close to 100 pitches, but he had to settle for 68. So where does this leave Peavy?

throw him out there you pansies

I hear Contreras will be ready.

Peavy's going to get lit up in the American League.

next year

So where does this leave Peavy?

It leaves him out for the rest of the season. If Chicago wants to get anything of value out of him, they aren't going to throw him out there with problems in his elbow.

They're done anyway so why risk it. Shut him down and get ready to see him get tanked next year when those AL line ups use him for batting practice.

True, this is a lost cause for the CWS, so no point in risking his health.

second that

With the schedule that the Sox have remaining, it would take a miracle to win the division. Ain't gonna happen.

true dat...and this weekend Sergio Mitre and Paul Byrd used two of the precious few miracles left in the season.

Doesn't really matter for this season. Like I suspected chicago fell way off the pace over the last 7 games. I knew they would have a tough time in Boston and in the Bronx, but alot of Chicago fans were chirping about how they had already beaten up on the Yankees in Chicago and were primed to do the same at the new Yankee Stadium. Where are all those "confident" pale hose fans now????

August 31, 2009  09:18 AM ET

the realistic "confident" pale hose fans were scared out of our pale hose going into this east coast trip. Save Peavey for next near-man, now I sound like a Cubs fan!!

Its an ugly time to be a baseball fan in Chicago...
Some will get over it- Peavy and Rios will be there with them for next season and should prove affible to the club in the long run... But I have a feeling the WhiteSox are not just gunning for the division though no matter how out of reach we might think it is- right now they are looking to play the spoiler if not more than anything...

Vincente Padilla is the ugliest son of a chingata I have ever seen.

Don't rush Peavy - It's time for both Chicago baseball teams to start planning for 2010.

Ahhhh Buyer Beware

August 31, 2009  12:23 PM ET

I love every minute of the white sox demise.

August 31, 2009  01:30 PM ET

Shut him down for the season... The Sox are not going anywhere this year anyway. Extremely disappointing but that's just the fact.

August 31, 2009  01:41 PM ET

Thank god the Braves didn't trade Escobar for this guy!

One of the worst deals I have ever seen......EVER!! Let's trade for a pitcher that's already on the DL. Who is the GM for the White Sox, is he related to Bud Selig?
