According to multiple sources, former NBA point guard Carlos Arroyo is on the verge of returning to the league after a very successful stint overseas. Since leaving the Orlando Magic, Arroyo guided Maccabi Tel Aviv last season to an Israeli Premier League Championship and was named MVP of the Finals. Now, according to El Nueva Dia, Arroyo is close to signing a one-year contract with the Chicago Bulls.

Thankfully Bulls fans won't have to rely on the very old Lindsey Hunter to back up Rose.

If the Bulls are interested in signing Arroyo, it might mean that there is a deal in the works for Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich is good enough to be running his own team.

With all the Rubio hype, it's easy to forget that there are other successful point guards in Europe. I wonder how Rubio stacks up against Sarunas Jasikevicius, Zoran Planinic, J.R. Bremer. J.R. Holden, Theodorus Papaloukas, Juan Carlos Navarro, Omar Cook, and Arroyo, etc. All except Papaloukas tried the NBA and failed. I wish there was more coverage in the U.S. so we can see the truth.

lol...come on-
with his contract- NO ONE is taking him this year
he's an average guard with a HUGE contract

Arroyo's a good guy to have- not sure if Chicago really needs him though since Rose will be playing big minutes this year

He would have more PT in Miami - Riley- you couldn't sign him?

Riley dialed Bronson Arroyo's number instead of Carlos's lol

I am a big fan of Carlos Arroyo...but I don't see how he could be a good fit in Chicago. The Bulls have really good Guards. You could argue that only Hinrich and CA are true PG...but I just don't see enough minutes for Carlos in this situation. And no way they would let go of Hinrich for Carlos...

If I was Carlos I would sing with a team in which I could be a 2nd guard with 15minutes plus...for a year. That way he can show his stuff and maybe next year witha better economic outlook he could get abigger and longer contract..

I hear you-
not sure of how much $ he made overseas- but it likely
is MORE than what he's going to be earning in the NBA

ps- the bulls always to things wacky-
they like PF's & Pgs'.....I think 80% of their roster are those- lol

Arroyo is a great back up point guard in the league, he is very active on both ends of the court.

I know you don't hold Hinrich in the same high regard that I do, but you can't possibly think he's average. Chris Duhon is average. I know Hinrich is not top tier, but I rank him above second tier guys like Mo Williams and Jameer Nelson, who were both named to the All-Star team. Hinrich's defense alone sets him apart. As for his contract, it's not that big for a starting point guard and it declines over three years: $9.5, $9.0, $8.5. Jose Calderon, TJ Ford, and Jason Kidd make similiar amounts.

wait a minute- Chris Duhon is BELOW average

If you are ranking him above nelson & Mo- then I can't
even begin to debate you since you are way off base

Not the point-
point is his contract is AWFUL and the top teams don't need
a pg- so what average team is taking on his contract >?
Miami ?

That's a possibility. Riley has spent the last 3 years looking for a point guard. I'm sure he's watching. What a moron.

August 31, 2009  11:36 AM ET

what is the big deal??? he is a very good backup PG and that is it...

August 31, 2009  11:39 AM ET
