Billboard taking shot at Weis?

A new billboard facing the Notre Dame campus offers a not-so-subtle reminder to coach Charlie Weis that the past two seasons have not been up to the standards of the storied Fighting Irish football program. It reads: "Best wishes to Charlie Weis in the fifth year of his college coaching internship." Weis said Tuesday he had not yet seen the billboard, about a half mile from his office, but had been told about it. Weis is well aware that Notre Dame fans have high expectations after the Irish went 3-9 and 7-6 the past two seasons -- the most losses in a two-year span in the 120-year history of Irish football.

For JRM:

And I always assumed the fans would get behind Weis......there's plenty of room!

How could he not see it? It's as big as he is! Okay, sorry for pandering to the lowest common denominator ...

We went thru this ad nauseum yesterday. Jabba needs to win a bunch of game or he's gone. ND's fan base includes a disproportionate number of jerks with a "holier (literally) than thou" attitude. However, not all ND fans fall into this group. Notre Dame faithful would like to replace Jabba with Urban Meyer. Florida fans aren't too keen on this idea. ND's 2009 schedule includes a lot of teams that are not real good at the moment - estimates from rational people (i.e., everyone but delusional ND fans and Sandy Underpants) are for the team to win between 8 and 10 games in 2009. Jabba is overweight.

Did I leave out anything of relevance? If not, let's just move along.

Still not as good as this one posted at the USC campus:

"Hey Coach Weis, I think to toughen up the players we are going to take away some of the heaters off the sideline."

"No Problem!"

"And I think we should also be doing two-a-days a little longer this fall."

"No problem!"

"Finally, I think it is time to move the Golden Corral-sponsored buffet line off the field after the opening kickoff..."

"PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I saw another billboard in Ohio making fun of him as well. It read "You deserve a break today at McDonalds", I think this is tasteless and they need to give the man more time. 4 years in not nearly enough to turn a team around. Look at some of what the other coaches in D1 did in 4 years after taking over teams, Urban Meyer, Pete Carrol, Jim Tressel.... Wait, Bad examples! Les Miles, No, Another bad example! Well, Good luck Charlie and don't let those billboards get you down. You can still take beach vacations with the family and when you wear that bathing suit wear it proud!

ND needs Lou Holtz back!

That is the funniest thing I have ever read on here and I have a coffee-coated monitor to prove it.

I think they should win 10 games. I don't think I'm one of the holier than thou fans am I? I never bring up the whole, "Oh we're Notre Dame, wins aren't important, our history reigns supreme blah blah blah." It's still rational to believe ND has a SHOT at beating USC right?

Oh and to that USC billboard...didn't LSU win a title in 2007? Yeah, USC won back to back titles in '03 and '04, but are you going to tell me Auburn didn't get jobbed in 2004? So in actuality USC should have had to split both their recent titles... In the 2003 split title, LSU beat a 11-1 OU team in the Sugar Bowl, USC beat a 10-2 UofM team in the rose bowl.

Yeah, you're one of the good guys, Pirate. And I can't claim that any school, including mine, is devoid of **** fans. Y'all got more than your share, though.

10 wins is possible. I still think it's 8. Only 33 hours 'til the season starts, and then we can find out. 33 hours. I think I can survive that long.

September 2, 2009  10:15 AM ET

The billboard was put up by Tom Reynolds, he played during Ara Parseghian's time. Maybe it was put up to start a fire under CW's butt...... (man, that's a big fire!!) But, don't go blame CW for the fire out in CA, I think that was Rich Rod!

I think a good topic in place of the lame billboard news should be...Which game not involving your team are you most looking forward to this weekend?

I had mine narrowed down to really three games, 'Bama v. Vtech, OSU v. Georgia and UofM vs. Western Michigan. I think the UofM/WMU will be the closest of the three, but I am excited to see OSU and Georgia. I always find it intriguing when the SEC leaves their home to go play somewhere else and frankly, I believe Georgia to be MASSIVELY overrated, prolly the most overrated team in the nation currently. How do you lose your entire backfield battery, that accounted for your whole offense the last two years and end up ranked 13?

I always get the feeling in preseason rankings these last few years that SEC teams get over ranked to start the season, simply because they play in the SEC. Look at last year for example, Georgia was number 1, LSU was 7, Auburn was 10, Tennessee was 18. Georiga finished 10-3 and ranked 13 while those other teams finished unranked...

September 2, 2009  10:18 AM ET

What's with the question mark after the headline?

FN, the answer is "yes". The billboard is making fun of him.

Any other questions?

I just wonder when Weis gets canned, if he will have the decency to either not accept his buyout money, or maybe donate it to a charity. This guy has been robbing his institution the minute he took the job.

Just out of curiosity...where do you see the four losses coming from?

Not sure if you know, but Charlie founded one of the largest charities for children born with learning disorders, Hannah and Friends. They raise millions of dollars to help funding and the families who have special needs children.
