When Brad Childress was asked about recent comments by LaDainian Tomlinson in which the San Diego Chargers superstar took umbrage with being put behind Adrian Peterson as a running back, Childress did not hesitate. "LaDainian is a hell of a back and he's entitled to his opinion," Childress said. "I'm going to tell you, my guy is the best football player in the National Football League and he's the best running back in the National Football League and I believe that."

LT is past his prime....Adrian has got him hands down. Ya can't live off your name forever LT....Put up or shut up "Bro!"

AD might be better than LT (currently) but he is not the best football player in the NFL. Peterson is useless as a receiver and he fumbles almost as often as he scores.

And LT is "useful" as a reciever?? I have 2 words for LT....Darren Sproles!!!!! Much like LJ on the Chiefs...your time has come and gone. Should have cashed in on your name when you had the chance homie!

2008 stats:
10 Touchdowns
9 Fumbles

This whole thread can whine about it if they'd like... that does not equal "Best Football Player in the NFL"

There are better Football Players. Maybe not necessarily better runningbacks... although it is close. But definitely better football players.

AD's best season as a receiver: 21 receptions
LT's worst season as a receiver: 51 receptions

As a "receiver"... not even close.

What does that mean, LT was "put behind Adrian Peterson as a running back"?

On Madden? Somebody's fantasy football rankings?

Why does LT care if some people think Peterson's better?

Jim Brown said that Peterson was a better than LT in an interview. LT took umbrage over one persons' opinion.

One thing to notice however, Peterson is silent in this "tempest in toilet bowl." He is definately classier than LT.

Can't argue that...Peterson is a stand up dude and a great ambassador of the game. Now if we can just keep him from "Makin it Rain" and smokin weed while killing dogs on a sex cruise under the name Steve Argentina we will be in business!!!

Ah, I missed that.

Thanks for clearing it up!

It will happen. Viking players can't help but get into trouble.

LT is still the best RB in football. two seasons for AP does not propell him above LT. If LT can prove last seasons drought was due to injury he will once again be the most dominate rb in the league. He is far more talented as a rec back and runs with better vision.

LT could possibly go down as a top 5 RB of all time if he can manage to rush for 1200-1400 yards another 2-3 years with about 12 scores each season. Combined that with his 400-600 rec yards he would get each season and 3 rec TDs. That is asking a lot of a normal RB and due to his age his window might be closing. But hard to put AP over him already.

It's not gonna matter anyway. I predict by week 8, all day will be hurt and done fore the year, maybe career.

And where does this 'genius' analysis come from?

Career ending injury? What are you talking about?!

September 3, 2009  07:33 AM ET

The best we have to go on right now is last year's stats, and AP wins there. So, somewhat to my surprise, I find myself in agreement with Brad Childress about AP being the best running back in the league. But, he's not the best football player, any more than Brad Childress is the best head coach.

If LT comes back to his former self, though, watch out.

Fortunately, both of these guys are playing for contending teams, so we should see a lot of them on the tube, and we can judge for ourselves.

(Hmmm, it's not a "tube" anymore, is it?)

Moron.

ADP was injured for a couple of games TWO years ago. He proved last year that he can be a solid every down back. Take this tired mantra and shove it way up your ass.

September 3, 2009  07:41 AM ET

This is funny, a RB getting irritated over his downward ability in the NFL.

Agreed.

This guy's comments are completely inane.

Referring to the guy who made the 'career ending injury' remark about Peterson, not you Bubbles.

As long as AP avoids the cover of the latest Madden game & opposing linebackers, he should hang up a lot of yards & make the ViQueens an annual threat.

I don't care if his receiving skills are "lacking" - heck, the QB position up there has been "lacking"...
