Will Oregon punish Blount for punch?

How far Oregon takes its punishment of LeGarrette Blount isn't yet clear. Coach Chip Kelly said he did not see the incident, but he had been briefed. After carrying the ball 13 times for minus-five yards, Blount got an earful from some Broncos after the game. And when Hout touched Blount's shoulder pads and had some words for the senior, Blount sucker-punched him. Blount was restrained by his teammates, but he also delivered a shot to teammate Garrett Embry, who was trying to be peacemaker. Then, when receivers coach Scott Frost and a police offer tried to wrestle an angry Blount to the locker room, he got into it again with some fans behind the end zone.

They should, no question about it.

September 4, 2009  07:40 AM ET

they should

September 4, 2009  07:45 AM ET

They should absolutely suspend him. It is clear in the video that it was a complete sucker punch. Pretty much a b*tch move. And it didn't even end there. He hit one of his own teammates! And tried to fight the cops. What a punk. So unless Oregon wants to send a message to future recruits and players that it condones losing your cool over some words being said, and taking it to extreme measures, then they need to sit him for at least two games.

This dude would be kicked off my team. I hope they hit him hard and take away his scholarship.

That dude is obviously a wild animal...I know he was taunted by the other player (who should also get in trouble for taunting) but he has no business clockin the dude in the jaw...and then too boot he had to escorted by like 4 or 5 people including police...and he was still acting like a wild animal....he should not have any place in NCAA for that behavior

AT LEAST TWO games. I'm in favor of 4 or 6 (or even kicking him off the team). This is totally uncalled for and his locker room "apology" wasn't very sincere. It was more like "the coaches are making me say this".

If Oregon doens't punish him, then the Pac-10 needs to.

September 4, 2009  08:04 AM ET

Yes, they will. There is a story out there that the kid from Oregon was taunting before the game, so I guess he doesn't mind the talk when he is doing it.

6 games sounds about right.

September 4, 2009  08:06 AM ET

He was reportedly taunting and jawing before the game which apparently prompted the taunt from the Boise player. The Boise player shouldhave just let the scoreboard do the talking for him but Blount had no excuse for the punch and the subsequent melee. I would kick him off my team but you know Oregon isn't going to do that.

What would Tom Osbourne do?

September 4, 2009  08:19 AM ET

Ridiculous display. How about enrolling him in Jack Nicholson's "Anger Management" course?

September 4, 2009  08:23 AM ET

hout deserved it, he should show more class in victory. the fans behind the endzone were screaming profanities and racist remarks and didnt hlpe matters at all. if boisie state wants to be a "bigtime" school they need to improve their facilities, sportsmanship and security.

but yes blount has to sit a couple of games.

fans scream profanities at every sporting event I've ever been to, that's nothing new. And I'm curious as to where you get that they were making racist remarks, were you there? Just curious.

Blount needs to be gone, simple as that, IMHO.

September 4, 2009  08:27 AM ET

he should have been arrested.

September 4, 2009  08:29 AM ET

Oregon was overrated anyways. I'm even more happy they lost after seeing that crap. If the coach doesnt do anything, the NCAA better step in and do something. He was running his mouth before the game, so he deserved to hear it from the Boise players after. Overall, Oregon got exposed and Blount should sit out the next few games.

September 4, 2009  08:29 AM ET

Thug. Blount was absolutely talking smack and couldn't take eating his words when he (and team) choked. This is the same thug who would "pop a cap" in someone on the street over stupid words to prove his manhood. Rest of year suspension. Period. Done. And yes, I have played sports at the college level and even when you lose and are emotional, you have to walk away. A cheap shot might make you feel better for a few minutes, but that scoreboard will stay with you forever.

September 4, 2009  08:30 AM ET

His butt should be on it's way back to his home town right now. Boise showed a lack of class, but anyone with as little restraint as this idiot doesn't need to be a student athlete on campus with civilized people. He should be packin' his suitcase and headed home already.

September 4, 2009  08:32 AM ET

Blount needs to be a man and take a dose of his own medicine. What a puss!

September 4, 2009  08:36 AM ET

I'm pretty sure his excuse will include something about keepin' it real.

September 4, 2009  08:39 AM ET

No way did the BSU kid deserve to get sucker punched. I saw it live and I've seen it replied a half dozen times. A tap on the shoulder and a passing word(watch the clip, he couldn't have said more than 2 words) does not warrant punching a guy in the face when he's not looking.

This is a stain on the Oregon football teams reputation, more so than the loss. This kid should be out for half the season and he can kiss his prospective NFL career good-bye. That punch was completely uncalled for, the BSU player should file an assault charge on the guy. There is no class is a COMPLETE sucker punch, especially one to the jaw bone like that.
