07:05 AM ET 09.08 | The New York Giants, who are still looking for a receiver to fill the shoes of Plaxico Burress, are also looking for another tight end. Per a league source, the Giants worked out Alex Smith (formerly of the Patriots) and Leonard Pope (formerly of the Cardinals) on Monday. Neither have been signed. Currently on the roster are Kevin Boss, Darcy Johnson, and Travis Beckum. Presumably, if a new tight end is signed, one of the current tight ends will be cut loose.

I hope they don't look too hard...they'll start rumors....

Seriously though...who cares!

September 8, 2009  07:41 AM ET

They need to worry about Woodson running his mouth........

...but..what does he know anyway right...

September 8, 2009  07:42 AM ET

Keep Boss, thats all I care about. lol

Darcy Johnson looked like he was coming on at the end of last year. So I guess the question is whether Alex Smith or Leonard Pope are an upgrade over Travis Beckum.

My guess... probably.

Hey this is the most gossip the giants have let out during this pre-season. With all the drama around the league its like year round football... excepts for the giants. they are so hush hush about things its ridiculous!!!

Doesn't make sense though... they traded a TE, Boss is obviously the TE/rec of the group. unless they are looking for the big play maker it doesn't make sense. This sounds like a smoke and mirrors to me. The point here is to find an offensive weapon. Pope and and smith are neither.

you don't care but yet you post two comments on the article. You're an idiot.

Ummmmmmm.......... again it slams it's self!

September 8, 2009  03:27 PM ET

The Giants need a deep threat at WR so they try out TEs? Yeah that makes sense.

I second that motion.

Thats what i am saying. Smoke and mirrors... you never know what the giants are doing... which is frustrating as a fan because you want to know whats going on with the team.

and Smith signed with the igles... so i doubt they are looking really hard at this. I dont think that they are going to look for anything significant in trades or pickups. If they werent confident in the WR that they have now they could trade for someone but i think it would cost too much... so they will stick with what they have. Which is a deep threat... now if they cuold just catch the ball!!!

one thing i would like to see is an upgrade in the secondary. The broncos have a lot of depth and some really good players.

The Giants passed o Smith and the Eagles signed him today.
Beckum is safe. They like what he can do, drafted too high to let go now. He is a receiver really. Johnson? Not sure how they kept him and let Mathews go ( signed by the Patriots ). Guess he can block. Sometimes.

It does if you think you have drafted the WR you like( Manningham, Nicks )..We shall see.

Good post. They need another safety, CB is fine. I would rather see a solid back up offensive tackle added..

You have to admit we haven't seen a lot from Manningham or Nicks, have we? Maybe they know something we don't. If none of the WRs stand out, they'll see a lot of 8-man boxes the entire season.

I agree, but Reese and Coughlin are smart football people. You just have to have faith in them. No other choice really.

Hmm...you mean aside from Nicks averaging 88 yds. and 1 TD per game in the preseason?
