Predators may trade blue-line depth

The Predators' signing of defenseman Ville Koistinen to a one-way contract last week should make for an interesting training camp. Nashville now has eight blueliners who would need to clear waivers. So while it's possible the Predators could choose to keep all eight blueliners on the roster, it's also possible that -- if all of the defensemen are healthy -- one might wind up getting traded. "It's a cliche, but you can never have enough good defensemen,'' GM David Poile said.

All defense and no offense! WOOHOO!!!

Why trade them? I figured they'd just keep them all and then let them sign big free agency deals with Philadelphia

Why not? They traded everyone else of any value! May as well finish the job and give away the rest of the team! The Predators have become easy prey these days! They'll get mauled this year!

Sadly, I think Roamer is right...sad days for hockey in Nashville

I concur with Darklighter and roamer. While Poile has made great moves in the past, I just don't understand his moves of the past few months. Yes he feels he should lessen the payroll, but at what cost? This was a great team trying to raise the average attendance to the level that would allow them to share the wealth. But how do you fill the seats when in the course of three weeks, you trade the three most popular players (Vokoun, Timmonen, and Hartnell); lose Sully and Kariya to free agency; and sign 8 blueliners that may or may not come through? How are you going to sell seats to the corporate world when you just gutted the heart and soul of the team? Granted, the Preds' farm system, especially Milwaukee, is one of the most solid systems in the NHL. The players they promote from within will make a strong team in a year or so, but Joe Average Fan doesn't know that. I think the only way the Preds stay in Nashville is if the local ownership bid gets approved, otherwise, the Preds will be in Kansas City sometime soon. You know Bettman won't allow the Preds to move to Hamilton due to the close proximity to other teams/media markets.
