07:24 AM ET 09.15 | Economic problems have forced Heat president Pat Riley, coach Erik Spoelstra and several members of the team's front-office to take pay cuts entering the season. Spoelstra said recently that he expected to open his second season as coach with his entire staff of assistants intact. But financial problems that led to reductions of about 20 employees on the business staff earlier this year have apparently spilled over to basketball operations.

hey Wade... wanna take a paycut?

September 15, 2009  08:24 AM ET

Riles should take a pay of $1 for the season. Doesn't deserve any more than that anyway!!

September 15, 2009  08:27 AM ET

Riley has been stealing money from the Heat for years. Time he should start giving back. Can you say" most Overrated" NBA coach ever.

September 15, 2009  09:21 AM ET

NBA coaches are pretty much always overpaid, at least it might save some jobs at the Heat. www.therantguy.com

If the Heat are hurting now, what will happen if Wade leaves? I know how Arison could save even more money. Fire Riley. Paying him for the job he's doing just isn't cost effective.

Maybe the purging of long-term salary isn't just to nab
a 2010 FA..........maybe the majority of teams are truly hurting

d@mn....i was thinking the exact same thing!

How about pay cuts for the roster, about 30-50%, and cutting the prices of all the overpriced stuff at the arena? The players make way too much money as is for playing a game.

PS: Knicks will never hurt when it comes to money. Matter of fact we're paying Lee and Nate more than the qualifying offer just so we can give league a fat luxury tax check...

What I don't get is why Pat Riley took on Jermaine O'Neals and Quentin Richardson's contracts if they hurt this much... they aint good from a basketball perspective and heck there's better expiring contracts out there... yikes...

Anyways I can't wait for Wade to resign with Miami so Riley and Arison can use money as an excuse (hey.. he took a paycut) to degrade the basketball talent while making tons of money marketing Wade... Cleveland style...

The Heat are not alone in this.

Of course... matter of fact we're hiring... still taking applications for a GM... Now will Pat Riley be chastized if he applied? We all love money right? Hahah... its NY baby!

They'll save a ton of cash once Wade buggers off to another team.

September 15, 2009  10:56 AM ET

I bet you Riley isnt taking a pay cut but everybody else is

Agreed. It's like having that trophy girl - let Wade go... its not fair to keep a player with such a burning desire to win on a poor team. LBJ you heard me?
