05:18 AM ET 09.22 | Jason Marquis apparently holds no grudge toward the Mets for their lack of interest in him last winter. Jeff Francoeur told The Post yesterday that Marquis, whom he considers a close friend, desperately wants to pitch for the Mets next season, even as the veteran right-hander focuses on helping the Rockies clinch a wild-card berth.

I can't believe this guy actually had a good year with the Rockies. Bet he can't do it two years in a row.

Why not, he knows the Mets will overpay for him and he can just mail it in, like the rest of the Mets team.

He needs to focus on this year....I would be pissed if I was the Rockies and he is talking about going to the Mets

The fact that he has had such a good year pitching half his games in Colorado speaks volumes. The Mets could really use him if he wants to return. That pitching staff is a joke.

Of course, he'll have to change his last name to Marquez before Omar even thinks about it.

Francoeur should have just kept his mouth shut. All he did was put Marquis in a bad position with his Rockies teammates. If that's a good friend, I'd hate to see his definition of an enemy.

really? that would explain why the guy has been with so many teams. he's got more wins than just about anyone over the last 10 yrs. i haven't been able to figure out why no one seems to want to keep the guy around.

From what I've read, he's somewhat of a cancer in the clubhouse and he doesn't listen to his pitching coaches. Both Leo Mazzone and Dave Duncan, two of the best in the business, couldn't wait to get rid of him.

his loss, i guess. if i was a pitcher and had the opportunity to work with one of those guys i'd be doing whatever they told me.

That's exactly it. Marquis has the stuff to be a very good pitcher, but he needs to realize that he doesn't have the stuff to strike everyone out. If he sticks to what he's good at (groundballs), he can be very effective.
Just look at his St. Louis years
2004: 15-7, 3.71 ERA, 1.92 GO/AO, 26 HR, 138K
2005: 13-14, 4.13 ERA, 1.56 GO/AO, 29 HR, 100K
2006: 14-16, 6.02 ERA, 1.05 GO/AO, 35 HR, 96K
If he can (or has?) realize(d) that so long as he pitches to his strengths that the strikeouts will come, he'll be an overall better pitcher.
