05:02 AM ET 09.22 | Free-agent swingman Keith Bogans will sign a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs, sources confirmed Monday to FanHouse. Bogans, a solid defensive player, is being looked at as an heir apparent to Bruce Bowen, who retired recently after being San Antonio's perimeter defensive stopper throughout much of the decade.

the spurs will make it work...they have rarely made a bad move over recent years.

Some of the replacements have not stepped up in crunch time and age and injuries are dogging the core players.

Bogans is an excellent pickup. He a tough, defensive- minded player that can hit the outiide shot and he's only 29. For the minimum, the Spurs pick up a former starter to be their 5th swingman behind Ginobilli, Jefferson, Mason, and Finley. The Spurs have arguably had the best offseason, adding more depth, size, and athleticism.

Gotta disagree-
the Spurs have faltered mainly cause Manu has been hurt-
and as timmy is getting older - he can't carry everyone as he
usually does on his back

POP & Timmy should enter the HOF together

i guess if u cant score u get labeled as a 'defensive stopper'?

September 22, 2009  09:55 AM ET

First of there will never be another Bruce Bowen. The guy is that good... second of all no matter who the Spurs add the Lakers will still crash them. Truth is age has finally caught up to Timmy... this 2009 season belongs to the Lakers!

Now Bogan remember what Bowen told you: Get in front of your player, grab, hold, elbow , trip and keep the "poker" face at all times...

hey, lost....ive been seeing a lot of pro laker posts from you lately....you plan on cheering for both coast, or would you like to just fully jump on the LA bandwagon?

September 22, 2009  10:16 AM ET

this is a dumb move... old men tim and popavichoski whatever his name is are getting old for this game... no more championships

September 22, 2009  10:29 AM ET

Heir apparent? So this other guy is also a dirty cheap-shot artist?

Totally, that is why Parker became that scoring threat last year and they signed Richard Jefferson to run the floor alongside Duncan, Manu, and Parker. They made some other decent signings for the bench this year as well but Jefferson should fix the problem of scoring and energy on this older Spurs squad.

I don't understand why people keep saying that age has caught up to Timmy. If averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds last season means that he is old then obviously every team needs to get older.

not bad number at all...but just not what everyone has come to expect from timmy. plus the fact that he had to sit out games for fatigue and simply to rest shows that age is creeping in. his mpg are going down as well

first of all SOME people are simply morons- they deal in
absolutes- he's great or he sucks.....

But I think with Timmy- he's simply getting older-
age catches up to everyone- thats why it was so important
for Pop to get another star-caliber player to take even more
pressure off of him- so he'll be that much more efective

Nice pickup. But can he learn to play defense as "dirty" as bowens?
