05:31 AM ET 09.22 | Tennessee Coach Lane Kiffin says he put his Volunteers in the best position they could be in to beat Florida. Then he took one more shot at Gators coach Urban Meyer. Meyer said Sunday that he kept his game plan conservative in No. 1 Florida's 23-13 win after he felt the Vols didn't appear to be playing for a win. He also said several of his players had been hit by the flu. On Monday, Kiffin said he didn't want to respond to Meyer's comment. But asked whether he was worried about the flu also hitting Tennessee, he said: "I don't know. I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited about a performance, we'll tell you everybody was sick."

What a child. Accomplish something, then talk.

i honestly think meyer pulled back a little bit. Tennessee is not that good. Above average, but not good enough to only lose by 10 to florida in gainesville.

but MCTaipan is right...kiffin needs to shut up since he currently is an NFL wash-out who currently has a victory over the powerhouse of western kentucky.

Florida doesn't look as good as last year. i know they have all those returning starters but looks like the teams not the same team, like the fire is out of the beasts belly. Good deal. ROLL TIDE ROLL! OUR YEAR!

Fan the flames Lane.....you already got burned anyway. Agree with MCTaipan: just be quiet.

September 22, 2009  08:04 AM ET

Why is the guy who lost talking smack? Has the world turned upside down or something? We lost to Florida last year - does that mean WE should be talking smack this year?

Help us out on this, Lane!

September 22, 2009  08:05 AM ET

smack talk is fun and Lanes just a kid so let him have fun. don't go pooh pooh on his fun.

September 22, 2009  08:19 AM ET

Lane's smack talk brings attention to his program. But talk is cheap. At some point, you'll need to back up that smack talk with some quality WINS.

I would rather see the smack...

I wonder if the Vols will suffer a flu outbreak about the third Saturday in October?

Joe, have you not been paying attention this whole offseason? He talks **** because it works and he will continue to do so because it works. It keeps him on the T&R boards and it keeps the program in the media and in front of recruits. It may make you Bama and Florida fans mad but he's not after you.

Besides, how else would a team that has gone 5-7 last year and is currently 1-2 have the #4 recruiting class at this point? If he had kept his mouth shut they would have had a recruiting class ranked in the 30's.

Plus, isn't making Bama fans and Florida fans mad what he's supposed to do? :)

Who cares if Kiffy yaps his trap? Field results are what matter, and he didn't get what he wanted. Boo hoo.

I will say that Kiffy couldn't play to win - his QB stinks too badly to put the game on his arm. The game would have gotten ugly (as expected).

Wish that I was on ole rocky top,
Down in the tennessee hills.
Aint no smoggy smoke on rocky top,
Aint no telephone bills.

Once there was a girl on rocky top,
Half bear the other half cat.
Wild as a mink, sweet as soda pop,
I still dream about that.

Rocky top, youll always be
Home sweet home to me.
Good ole rocky top,
Rocky top tennessee, rocky top tennessee...

Wait........they lost?

You got that right...this is how it is supposed to be...

September 22, 2009  08:53 AM ET

What MCTaipan said.

September 22, 2009  08:53 AM ET

So a coach can accuse another of not going for the win but that coach is not supposed to have anything to say about it? Myer is trying to come up with excuses that his big power offense didn't have the big "blowout" that was supposed to happen and teach Lane a "lesson", no timeouts to rub it in nor 60 or 70 points for Gator fans to cheer about! Gator Swamp is right... UT could run the ball and now way did anyone want to see Crompton pass but the Gators!

I'll have that in my head all day, THANKS!!!!

Lane is just trying to be this generation's Steve Spurrier with the smack talk on other coaches.

September 22, 2009  09:05 AM ET

I'm wondering what Lane's dad is doing? He could talk some sense into Lane and ask him not to put his his foot in to his mouth so often. It's not even interesting anymore...
