Like they were going anywhere anyways.....

Nice face, Wedge...

What I didn't realize is that he is going to travel with the team to Fenway to close out the season - that seems kinda odd, timing-wise ... why not just wait 3 more games, end the season, and then can him. It's not like they have a candidate they are ready to offer the position to ...

They wanted to grab some headlines before they became irrelevant AGAIN during the postseason.

First they fire him, and then they take a picture of him the moment after sharting upon himself. That's not nice.

How did he hold on to the job as long as he did?

October 1, 2009  08:46 AM ET

Wedge is not the problem. You can only play the hand you are dealt. Cheap ownership doesn't want to pay player salaries, awful upper-management, horrible fan attendance, very bad trades (they get nothing in return for shipping off their good players). Looks like the Cleveland Pirates are just another farm team for the rest of baseball. Enjoy losing and finishing in last place, it looks like it is going to be a happening on a yearly basis. YUCK!

I have seen other teams in the past do this and I could never understand why? If you are going to fire someone then let them go now, Don't say "Your Fired........right after this weekends series is over" If I were Wedge I would have some fun with the team. He could take them out to some gentlemans clubs and buy them a few rounds, Maybe they could score there because they sure as hell can't do it on the field.

Wedge might not be a great manager, but he's showing here to be a stand up guy. Playing the brave 'company man' might not get him another managing gig, but people notice...it's the kind of thing that will have him on a major league bench in one capacity or another for the rest of his life. Well played, Eric.

Or, maybe they do. We don't know. You bring up an interesting point, though, in that they've done this right before they're headed to Fenway. Remember those rumors about Ferrell?

Agreed. I think he's a good in-game tactictian, too. I just think he doesn't do a very good job of motivating players.

Again, I agree. I've wanted him to be replaced for about five years. Catching lightening in a bottle in '07 and winning Manager of the Year I'm sure had something to do with it. Also, Shapiro, for whatever reason, is a big fan of his.

I don't know who I'm more pleased is gone, though, Wedge or Chuck Hernandez. F that guy.

they could always hire willie randolph.

Lead-pipe cruelty in Cleveland, my man.

Just for that comment, I may find Randolph, pull his arm off and beat you with it.

I don't blame you. Let's find him, pull his arm off and beat Wedge with it. What'da say?

October 1, 2009  09:44 AM ET

How about we pull willie's and Wedges arms off, slightly freeze them, and beat Jerry Manuel into oblivion...

i let out a collosal fart over the weekend....at least I thought it was a fart....perhaps it conicided with the firing of Wedge.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced
