Boras wants new defensive stats

Agent Scott Boras proposes a new stat, "EP" or "Exceptional Play," to be given to players who make sensational plays on defense during a game. The official scorer would be asked to distinguish between an exceptional play and a routine one in the same way he is asked to distinguish between a hit and error.

Greedy guy just wants to use the stat so he can make more money.

July 10, 2007  11:56 AM ET

Why not just call the stat the $.

July 10, 2007  12:35 PM ET

Boras is a CANCER to all professional sports.

July 10, 2007  01:19 PM ET

Ohh how about EP for Boras as "Expletive" Prick!

July 10, 2007  01:19 PM ET

Are you kidding me. I guess he is running out of negotiating tactics.

July 10, 2007  01:39 PM ET

Scott Boras is to baseball as Drew Rosenhaus is to the NFL.

Scott should just keep "twittiling his thumbs until the end of the yr & then he will go & get A-Rod his next deal for 8yrs 240 mil." In the deal the team that signs ARod should also get a lifetime supply Vicodine, Oxycontin, & Arsenic b/c the team & the owner's life will be going do hill quickly.

DOES ANYONE REALLY CARE WHAT THIS IDIOT THINKS?!?!?!?!?!

July 10, 2007  02:21 PM ET

His mother cares, diesel, and so does mine.

July 10, 2007  02:27 PM ET

just so he can make more money. Scott you have enough, pull your pants up, and wash off

July 10, 2007  02:49 PM ET

Actually, if any one else had made this suggestion it might have merit. I can't stand the guy, but it is interesting. It could actually help lower some salaries for some guys because they would not have the defensive ratings of some other player.

So using Boras's thinking, if they don't have the high defensive level, they shouldn't get the salary. Besides, there really is no definitive way to quantify that a player is a good defensive player, other than not making errors. Before you light me up, I did mention I can't stand the guy, right?

July 10, 2007  03:34 PM ET

who does this a hole think he is???? what is he the commish all the sudden! I got a new stat, how about "PA" prick agents that screw teams over...

July 10, 2007  03:37 PM ET

Welcome to Lake Borasville, where all the athletes are above average, and all their plays are exceptional.

July 10, 2007  04:04 PM ET

"Exceptional Play" sounds as subjective as "error." I imagine an army of jizz moppers are already needed to clean up the floor of the Yankee press box everytime Jeter does anything mildly heroic. Can you imagine the home town scorer going crazy with those "Exceptional Play" awards?

July 10, 2007  04:43 PM ET

I can only hope that Selig and his minions just roll their eyes and ignore the crap spewing from Boras' mouth. What a dingus.

July 10, 2007  05:00 PM ET

What are u guys communists? I don't get it? This is pretty good idea, and this is also America where the beauty of a free market economy enables all of us to maximize our dollar values. Even if you already think ballplayers are overpaid they should still have every right to seek way to increase their incomes, and if this statistic is used it seems like fairly legitimate measure of one's worth....

July 10, 2007  05:14 PM ET

Why not keep stats on how many batted balls a fielder gets to and turns into outs to determine how good he is? We could call these stats assist and put-outs. Oh, they already do keep these stats? My bad.

July 10, 2007  05:18 PM ET

Good point.
In America we don't let the inmates run the asylum. Management has an advaserial role compared to employees and Scott Boras is a parasite. Yeah i can see how it would be to the advantage of MLB owners to start scoring a completely subjective stat like Exceptional Plays. why not also include a likability rating or a marketability rating.

July 11, 2007  08:04 AM ET

what an****

July 11, 2007  11:16 AM ET

Scott Boras.

He is not even a man anymore.

It's become a scourge.

If you put a company of apes on a garbage barge, how long will it take before the alpha male eats the first-born?

Scotty knows.
