Chiefs linebacker on trading block?

06:20 AM ET 10.13 | Derrick Johnson, the former first-rounder of the Chiefs, must be in the dog house. He never seems to find the field for the Chiefs, and last year he was one of their better players. I'm sure he's available for trade if a team is looking for a fast-flowing backer.

Chiefs would be crazy to trade anyone while they still have a shot at making the Super Bowl.

Today's theme.....aging players on the chopping block; mostly rumour but what the heck...

October 13, 2009  06:45 AM ET

are the chiefs really ready to blow it up and tear it down this soon? after 5 games, its time to start a re-rebuilding project?

i smell bs.

We're going to call the offense the "Wild Injun".

That's funny, dude... although certain interest groups may find fault with the derogatory reference.

Made me laugh...

The Oakland Raiders are working on their version of the wildcat, too. It's going to be called "The Weird Al."

The "Running Raider" would be my choice, but hey... I'm just a dumb ass Skins fan.

Johnson isn't on the block per say, but the Chiefs wouldn't mind moving him for the right package. He started the year as the third string linebacker and has moved his way up the depth chart to second string. The Chiefs moved defensive end Tamba Hali to outside backer, traded for Mike Vrable and expected Johnson to start inside as apart of their new 3-4 Defense. The sad truth is that Johnson has been outplayed by Demorrio Williams and Corey Mays. Anyone that has watched Johnson these past few years will tell you that he hasn't lived up to the hype. He was always a player on the brink of a great season, but never really put one together. He'll have a great play every now and then, but he isn't consistent and the Chiefs can't rely on him on every down. If a team wants to deal for him, I'm sure the Chiefs would be willing to listen.

Sounds like he'll be looking to play elsewhere next year at the behest of his current team.

This writer is pathetic! He's clearly unfamiliar with the story and instead of doing some investigating or talking to people in the know... he's just making an insinuation and starting conjecture or rumors. He doesn't support his thoughts with any facts and is clearly excited about Johnson's potential on another team. Well, sorry to tell you this National Football Post, but this "fast flowing backer" was moved to inside backer because of his inability to play pass coverage, his lack of speed and he hasn't exactly terrorized quarterbacks, sacking the QB only 13 times in 5 years. He's averaging a meager 58.5 tackles a year, which is terrible for a guy that was supposed to be a perrinial all-pro. Start all of the rumors you want. Any draft pick in return for this guy would be a gift!

Too funny...On the plus side you face my Eagles right after we dispatch with the Raiders this Sunday.....between the Bucs, the Raiders and the Redskins after our week off, we don't have a bye week..we have a bye month.

My question would be . . .if you can't start for the Chiefs . . . .why would anyone want you?
