06:32 AM ET 10.13 | Billy Wagner may have thrown his last pitch in the major leagues. The former Mets pitcher told The Post yesterday he's planning to retire rather than pursue a closer's job -- and 400 career saves -- next season.

Keep on truckin BW!

Hard to believe that he really is going to hang them up considering his reported reluctance to take the trade to Boston and all the talk of not wanting his option picked up so he could become a free agent.

Surprising. We will see.

That'd be shocking, as he looked really good this year with the Sox.

He is just waiting for suitors.

Someone will offer him a job.

Agreed, he's just "salting the trail" for a bigger pay day.

he looked good, right up until they really, really needed him to perform. Consider yourself lucky Sox fans...everyone knows Wagner's penchant for blowing it in big situations...

advice from a yankee fan to theo...you can not rely too many heavily on old, broken down players and expect success.

I don't think that's a newsflash for him.

How close is he to 400 saves anyway?

October 13, 2009  08:35 AM ET

just wanted to send a reminder....

althought, I think it would be advisable to sign John Smoltz to head up the rotation next year....he's primed for a breakout year.

and Clemens is also available at least until he's in jail.

a few $$ next year
