06:50 AM ET 10.15 | A day after abandoning his captaincy, speaking of a strained relationship with Don Nelson and reiterating that he wants out of Golden State, Stephen Jackson went a step further. He called out his teammates and Kobe Bryant. "Nobody reacted but me, so the team didn't have a reaction," Jackson said after practice Wednesday, referring to his emotionally charged matchup with Bryant on Friday. "It was only me standing up for myself. I don't think anybody else stood up for me. Jackson wanted someone - the coaching staff or his teammates - to back him when he and Bryant tussled through the preseason game's opening 10 minutes. "I'm not a fan of Kobe. I'm not somebody who looks up to him," Jackson said. "I'm a grown man, so when I go out there and play the game, I play the game. I feel like I'm just as good as him. I might not get the publicity or the notoriety he gets, but I feel like I can play with anybody in the NBA."

I'm really starting to get the impression that Jackson is a major head case.

S. Jackson on Kobe Bryant

All further questions should be, so you're smoking exactly what?

October 15, 2009  08:06 AM ET

Dude, really?!?!? It's the preseason ... how emotionally charged can you be?

October 15, 2009  08:11 AM ET

He's making it harder and harder for Golden State to trade him....I mean I don't like Kobe like the next man but come on now....Jackson should never put his and Kobe's name in the same sentence.

not sure where you're getting that impression from........lol

October 15, 2009  08:34 AM ET

Delusional is the only word that applies. If I'm starting a team, his name doesn't come up until well after Kobe's. As a matter of fact, I don't call his name unless it is followed by no F N way.

Exactly - he might have been gone already if he could keep his mouth shut. Now teams are more worried about his attitude than his contract. Teams like Utah, Portland, Toronto, Washington, and Philly could use a wing player of his caliber, but he can't pass their good-citizen test.

One thing I'll say for Jackson - he was one of the two players that guarded Lebron the best last year. The Lakers got the other one. The Eastern Conference teams, like Orlando and Washington, should be quite interested.

Not even an important story!

October 15, 2009  08:46 AM ET

There isn't anything wrong with thinking you're as good a player as someone else... forget about media hype, fan opinions, etc.

However, to go off with statements is just gonna set yourself up for ridicule.

... but, I really think every good player should believe in themselves and not put ANY player above their own abilities.... it doesn't have to be spoken in rage and come out like a jealous person.... just work hard and believe in yourself.

No.... If you aren't as good you aren't as good. Can't wait to see Kobe play them again this season. Hope he's still on the team because I want him demoralized and crying by the seasons end for even thinking such ridiculousness.

October 15, 2009  08:57 AM ET

HA!!! I'm just as good as Kobe..uhhh hello...earth to Stephen...did u smoke b4, during, and after the game....Kobe is the best all around player in the game...ur not even close to him, and to think i really thought u were a good player b4 this...God i hope i hear all u "LeBron is the best player in the game" morons out there...

October 15, 2009  08:59 AM ET

I doubt that's going to happen...

... people make comments all the time that get washed over.

Isn't Kobe the same guy that said he wanted to be traded 3 years ago and could NEVER play for the Lakers again?

Yea he did say that...I remember that and the NBA didn't fine him either when Kobe threw his team and the Lakers front office under the bus but Jackson said the same thing and Stern fine's him?....that's what you call "SuperStar" treatment.

True...

... and, it's unfortunate that media, fans, etc. buy into it AND promote it.

I remember when Charles Barkley said he was as good as Michael Jordan. Barkley said he doesn't think ANY player is BETTER than him, Jordan, Drexler, et. al... and why should he...

When did it become acceptable to defer to other players when you're a talented player yourself? It's not like Jackson is a scrub or has not enjoyed some success.

His biggest mistake is saying it publicly... because, of course, the NBA promotes "stars" and the average fan needs sports "heroes".

October 15, 2009  09:12 AM ET

I UNDERSTAND WHAT HE SAYING. HE KNOWS HE AINT BETTER THEN KOBE HE JUST SAYING HE A GROWN MAN AND HE DONT HAVE KOBE POSTERS ON HIS WALL LIKE ALOT OF PLAYERS IN THE NBA AND HE KNOWS HE CAN SCORE AND DEFEND WITH THE BEST OF THEM... HES NOT A AVERAGE NBA PLAYER HES A ABOVE AVERAGE BORDERLINE SUPERSTAR IN THIS LEAUGUE SO WHY WOULD HE NOT WANT TO COMPETE AGAINST WHOEVER I RESPECT WHAT HE SAID AND I WANT DUDES LIKE THAT ON MY SQUAD (LETS GO WIZARDS)

Exactly!!!...

... you are absolutely correct.

The man is basically saying he's not enamored or in awe of Bryant or any other player. Why should he be? He's not a scrub. He can score 30+ on any given night... as you stated, he can defend as well.

Jackson acted like a buffoon in San Antonio and has worn out his welcome no matter where he ends up. Trade him to the Clippers and let's see how much he wishes he was a Warrior
