07:00 AM ET 10.16 | It's no surprise Kevin Durant is really pushing the team angle this week. When asked by FanHouse if he wants to play for Team USA in the World Championships next summer in Turkey, the Oklahoma City forward couldn't stop talking about how badly he wants to represent his country. Sounds as if he'd settle for the role of scorekeeper. "I just want to be on that team,'' Durant said of Team USA next summer. "I'll do anything."

Just be your automatic mismatch-creating self, Kev. You're practically a lock. But just to make sure, keep working hard to improve your defensive skills.

Couldn't agree more... the attitude is right where it needs to be. The skills are coming.

Got to watch him this summer in a pro-am league. Most nights he played two games and was just as strong in game 2 as he was in game 1. He's going to be a beast this season.

Did anyone laugh and think to themselves "Anything???" when seeing this title.

Seriously Durant, have some self-respect!

The draw to get a gold medal has to be strong...less men have Basketball Gold Medals than those that have rings.

Gotta like this kid's game and tude - Please don't change any of it...!!!

Durant is a top 5 player in this league this year....If he is healthy he will make the US team

October 16, 2009  08:39 AM ET

He's actually playing better defense these days. That will go a long way to making the team.

Self respect? I think the biggest problem today (not just in sports either) is SELF. Everyone is so worried about self that they lost the reason to even play the game. I'm glad to be reading this instead of another player holding out for a bigger contract but I figured someone would bring a negative slant to something good. Oh well...

Its nice to see a player with this type of mentality as opposed to the Olympic/WC teams of the early 2000s - oh I'll play at the WC, but don't count me in for the Olympics, I think I have something to do that week.

I don't know if he is quite there yet, but I think he isn't far off

He is a very good player, but let's not get carried away. Kevin Durant is NOT a top 5 player in the league!!!

really?
if so- that's great

Until the reg season rolls around- and he has to start playing
big minutes & back-back on that skinny frame......
we'll see if he truly brings it defensively every night

October 16, 2009  09:34 AM ET

You gotta like a kid that wants to represent USA in the Olympics...I just want him to gain some weight and fill into his potential

Up and coming star but let's not get carried away with this...

Smart move on his part. He knows he's more likely to win Olympic medals than an NBA ring in OKC!

a lot of the players that played in the olympics got the gold medal, before they got and nba championship.....if they got one at all

October 16, 2009  10:33 AM ET

Durant is improving and I am surprised he hasnt been picked yet to rep our country.. all the coaches have expressed how impressed they are with his performance during the try outs, he will make the squad!!

Or maybe he's like a lot of NBA players and would rather have a gold medal than a ring. They're much harder to get, and they mean more. Winning rings is a player's job, winning medals should be about passion.
