Grizzlies unlikely to extend Gay before deadline

08:45 AM ET 10.16 | Unless there is significant progress in negotiations, it appears the Grizzlies and forward Rudy Gay will not agree to a long-term contract extension before the Oct. 31 deadline. Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said Thursday that the discussions, while amicable, are about where they've been since the summer. Wallace has negotiated with Gay's agent, Jeff Austin, since July 1. They have met in Las Vegas, Memphis and briefly in Richmond, Va., where the Griz played a preseason game against the Washington Wizards. Wallace would not characterize their most recent talks, and it is not known where each side stands with regard to total compensation.

this isnt surprising....this pretty much the blueprint for signing players that will be restricted free agents....no need to overpay...but in the grizzlies case....players are ALWAYS looking to get out!

Gay is cuffed and shackled to the Grizzlies for the next two years(this year + 1 restricted). And with the teams checkbook hemoraging they may have to get a prostetic limb to take care of his position after that.

Look at my avatar. Thats a warrior there. Yeah I'm a fan. And yes I am serious. Why can't I be? Is it only laker fans that can propose one-sided trades. Ok then hear you go...
vujacic and morrison for Lebron. Yeah that will work.
And BTW jackson for gay ain't that lopsided. However....

That would be a very good trade for both sides. The problem is Memphis is not willing to pay too much and that is what you basically get from Jackson. I change my mind. It's a better trade for GS. If Memphis is willing to pay Jackson then there is nothing wrong w/ actually keeping Gay and giving him the contract that's close to Jackson's contract.

Agreed. This is a better trade for GS and if I was the Grizz I would not make it. I do wonder what the chemistry between Jack and AI would be.

I couldnt make out the avatar. without zooming in, it looks like some dude selling car stereos out the truck of his car.
Jackson for Gay is totally lopsided.
You have a loose canon and a distraction in Jackson, sure he hustles on D and is a good offensive player, Rudy is YOUNG with tonnes of potential. Jackson is on the downward slope.
Last thing the Griz need is another distraction like AI and a guy that is going to complain if he doesnt get what he wants (like another AI)
Im no Lakers fan...Celts, Bulls, (I am ashamed to say it) Knicks and Raps (only because I have to cheer for the fellow Cnd's)

Rudy for Jack. Hmm. Jack, Zach, AI and OJ. But there's only one ball allowed on the court each time? Lol.

Memphis is a Gay city. That being said. Would be better in his interest to get out of Memphis and join a team that has a future and a winning agenda.
