Does Pujols want out of St. Louis?

08:34 AM ET 10.18 | When Albert Pujols went a career-worst 89 at-bats without a home run to end an MVP performance in 2009, it was shocking. But it also may have been more. It may have been the beginning of the end for him in St. Louis. The time may be coming, faster than Cardinals fans could dream, when general manager John Mozeliak may have to do the unthinkable -- solicit trade offers, most likely from the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets. Pujols, baseball's best player in the last decade, left Busch Stadium without talking to reporters last weekend. But in the little bit of communication he has had since then, he has raised doubts about his desire to spend his career with the Cardinals.

Pujols........ left Busch Stadium without talking to reporters last weekend

lol....maybe he left caue he was pissed his team got swept?
- I don't see how THAT translates into - he wants out

October 18, 2009  08:58 AM ET

I know I could look it up, but how old is Pujols?

October 18, 2009  09:13 AM ET

There is no space for him at Yankees with Tex. there! That leaves Mets and Sox. Maybe the Dodgers. Depends on whether he wants to stay in the NL! Very interesting situation.

Come to New York Al! You'll look great in pinstripes! Hank! Hal! Get out your checkbook and scratch 'em a $300 mil 10 year deal!

Hank! Hal! While your at it, Joe Mauer will be on the market next November! Dip into the grandchildrens college fund and mortgage the vacation house in the Caribbean! Come on Scrooge McDuck, ya can't take it with ya! Scratch 'em a $300 mil 10 year deal! It's only money.

He can DH, play left and fill in at first to give Tex a day off. I think he would look good in pinstripes, though I doubt it will happen.

Please come to Boston for the springtime..
You can stay in Beacon Hill, cause they got lots of room..
You can homer over the big green monster....
and a huge contract can be worked out soon....

lol....come on now-
we can't have every HOF player at every position

- don't getm me wrong.....he would look VERY dapper
in pinstripes....but he ain't coming

MLB should just make it part of winning an MVP or Cy Young award that in addition to the trophy you also get a contract with the Yanks, Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs or White Sox...that's where they all end up anyway. It's really getting ridiculous. Mauer and Morneau aren't long for Minnesota. Can't imagine KC being able to hang on to Greinke. Countless others in the past and now maybe Pujols. When a team like the Cradinals can't keep a big money guy, it's time for MLB to do something salary cap-wise.

The Red Sox wouldn't have what it takes to get Pujols. You would have to throw in two first rounders or highly rated minor leaguers, a first baseman and another proven player such as an outfielder with speed or power. What are they gonna take from Boston, Casey Kochman and J.D. Drew? The team that would be in the best position to deal for Pujols would be the Twins. They're looking to get over that first round hump. They have a well-stocked farm system, Morneau and several attractive possibilites in the outfield.
