Never one to shy away from giving his opinion on controversial subjects, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said steroids could be used to help athletes recover from injuries as long as they are prescribed by doctors and that it could be proved there would be no long-term damage. "I'll get killed for saying this," Cuban replied, "but I'm not so against steroids if they're administered under proper supervision and there is no long-term damage."

what? open mouth and insert foot. a fine is on the way Cuban

I see nothing wrong at all with what he said. I think if steroids will help a player recover faster from an injury than by all means take them under a doctors supervision. Not some shady doctor that works out of the back of a gas station but have league certified doctors prescribing them.

A fine for what? I don't see anything wrong w/ what he said either.

I think with Mark Cuban he really likes to go the way of the cliche "any publicity is good publicity" or however it goes.

Wow pro steriods......controversial........

Mark Cuban has guts committing to Marion and Kidd long term, although if it doesn't work out they should become some what movable assets. I think a first round exit and this team gets blown up. From the looks of things and the continuity they have built from 7+ 50 wins seasons and Dirk failing in just about every spot (good experience to make him more hungry), this team could surprise in the playoffs.

why did he have to trade Eddie Jones for Shawne Williams, why? yeah Ej was a bum...but that bum was my someones most bestest player, and see how that turned out.

Dirk needs steroids to toughen him up!

I have little knowledge on steriods, anyone know much?

I have the perception that Steriods and sports should not mix.

October 21, 2009  07:37 AM ET

Cuban has a history of getting fined for saying things controversial....not saying I agree. He just likes being on the edge.

steroids.

The way, Cuban acts, sometimes I think he's on steriods...or some at least some form of hallucinagenic...

"Other side effects of anabolic steroids are the deepening or hoarsening of voice; excessive hair growth on the face, chest, and back areas; and male pattern baldness. Puffiness under the eyes is yet another side effect of anabolic steroids as caused by sodium retention. "

Proper supervision and no long term damage? Tell that to all those former East German, former female athletes ...

If we want to bad something that has proven log-term damage we should ban football.

The facts: steroids ARE legally prescribed by doctors for joint injuries and even (gasp!) asthma and bronchitis usually with an assortment of other drugs. Steroids are not crack, they do have medical benefits. Key to what Cuban said is that if they are 'administered under proper supervision'...aren't ALL drugs harmful without proper supervision?

Did you hear Leno the other night?

He said every team needs to be allowed to have 1 steroids freak on the team for crucial situations.

I guess you would have had to seen it to appreciate the humor of it..........

I suppose that psychological disorders should also be included. For example, if a player is depressed that their home run total or rushing yardage is a little low, a doctor should be made available to help with a handy injection.

Almost everything can be good under the right circumstances.

Another genius comment. That is cortisone and prednisone, which can be prescribed today for athletes, ever hear of athletes getting cortisone shots, genius? These are legal now. What is not legal are the class of androgenic steroids. Which have little medical value. The full name for this class of drugs is androgenic (promoting masculine characteristics) anabolic (tissue building) steroids (the class of drugs). Some of the most abused steroids include Deca-Durabolin , Durabolin, Equipoise, and Winstrol.

Side effects include
High blood cholesterol levels - high blood cholesterol levels may lead to cardiovascular problems
Severe acne
Thinning of hair and baldness
Fluid retention
High blood pressure
Liver disorders (liver damage and jaundice)
Steroids can affect fetal development during pregnancy
Risk of contracting HIV and other blood-borne diseases from sharing infected needles
Sexual & reproductive disorders:
Atrophy (wasting away of tissues or organs) of the testicles
Loss of sexual drive
Diminished or decreased sperm production
Breast and prostate enlargement
Decreased hormone levels
Sterility
Shrinkage of the testicles

Ever wonder why Jeter refers to ARod as 'his little man'?

Cuban should be banned from sports. He is a cancer himself.

Cuban, for the love of the Almightly, please shut your trap!
