NHLPA probe to get messy

08:08 AM ET 10.22 | Upon further review, the NHL Players' Association is about to review itself. Using an extra 72 hours to secure the necessary votes, the NHLPA Wednesday approved last Sunday's motion to investigate its internal operations and what lead to the firing of former executive director Paul Kelly. A four-man review committee consisting of NHL veterans Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios, Mark Recchi and Rob Blake will interview NHLPA staff members to recommend changes and how best to mend the fractured union. It's going to be messy work considering how difficult it was to get a 23-4 vote, with three abstentions, in favour of the review.

This is truly a sad saga, and how could the gang of four possibly come back without a recommendation to re-instate Kelly ( whether they like him or not), and to convene an emergency meeting of the whole membership, at the first available opportunity.

Make sure you wear latex gloves as you do the probing! Oh! And, if you get a chance, give the Poison Dwarf a deep probing too!

Would have to ask Bill Daly to step aside 1st

I'd pay to watch Chris Chelios giving the Poison Dwarf a probing exam. I'll have a paper bag handy, but I'll watch.

This is going to get messy [no pun intended].

To get? It has been for a while.

And I imagine they'll be interviewing the people who resigned in the aftermath as well - Glenn Healy, Eric Lindros (who resigned before, of course), etc., etc. What a treat for these players to get to interview such mental heavyweights. They had better set a full day aside for Healy's self-promoting long windedness, or for Eric to wait until his Dad tells him what to say after each question is asked.

What they should be doing is getting some outsiders with experience involved. Consultants, if you will, from MLB or the NBA or whatever - guys from on the the sports worlds' PAs that actually work. Bring them in, let them take a look at how the circus is run, then provide suggestions on how to correct the issues. The union would then enact the suggestions they like, ignore the rest, and move on with some sort of plan, rather than just floating aimlessly the way they have since Goodenow's ousting.

"NHLPA Probe to get Messy" - What kind of headline is that?!
Add a certain body part before the word probe and you'll see why this made me chuckle.

What we have here... is a failure to eliminate.

These probe thingees can be catchy.

...and after the sack race, we'll be starting the commissioner toss.

It's Mommy's 88 not Daddy's 88!!

I absolutely agree with the INDEPENDENT consultant route...labor relations/Pro Sports/Arbitration background with proven strategic thinking to help the Union partner with the NEXT commissioner to create the league profile 5 years out ,put the tactical plan in place and talent to get there. Not someone who writes "Decks" and leaves them for underwhelming talent to attempt to execute....

As with any probe, it's the prep work that is messy.

Take the probe I had yesterday for example...... That Pico-Salax stuff I had to take 2 days ago works like you would not believe
