What's holding up UW-Gonzaga series?

The most heated basketball rivalry in the Northwest might resume next season if Washington and Gonzaga can settle on where to play the games. The Huskies want to play their cross-state rival in a three-year series at KeyArena while the Bulldogs want the games to be played on the two campuses.

Sounds to me like the Huskies are afraid to go to Spokane.

Like it or not, a small Catholic school in the less-populated part of the state has become the flagship program of the entire state.

The simple solution is to make it a 4 year rather than 3 year contract. For 2 years play in Seattle; either on campus, or at Key--what ever UW wants.

The other 2 years play in Spokane at the venue GU chooses. Or UW can simply put its tail between its legs, and continue playing lesser non conference games and remain the #2 program in the state.

State Legislation in all states should make it mandatory for all D1 schools to schedule in state rivals each year. Makes for a great fan base-cuts down on travel expenses-builds excitement and interest.

NO--Absolutely not

Just as the Catholic Church has no business telling the government how to function; the government has no business telling this Catholic University how to run their school.

This makes sense in some states where you have 2 state rivals, but UW and WSU are both in the Pac-10 so they play each other already

You're right if Catholic schools don't accept any state or goverment funding then I guess they can do what they want. But if they do collect any type of Federal or State monies or subsidies then they should required to play instate schools. Do catholic colleges get any type of federal or state aid???

There basketball programs aren't getting aid.

If some research lab on campus is getting money for a project, perhaps there is federal money involved, but I don't see what that has to do with basketball.

I am in Calif, but before that I lived in Michigan. I dont want me congressman deciding basketball schedules.

Here in Calif we have maybe 20-25 NCAA teams. I dont want UCLA being told that if they want to play Long Beach St one year (which would be a decent enough game) they have to play UC-Rivirside; Cal St-Northridge; and CSU Bakersfield too. let the coaches and athletic directors work it out.

Michigan has exactly 7 D-1 schools. Sometimes the Spartans play, Eastern or Central Mich. I dont recall a game against Western, bt that might happen too. How do you feel if you were an MSU fan and they had to back out of some games with Texas, Kansas or Gonzaga so they could fit the directional schools in on the schedule.

UW is looking good lately...Romar is taking advantage while UCLA is reloading its talent

Stick to your guns Gonzaga, they need you more than you need them. What a ridiculous offer to begin with. I'm with Few, lets play the game's at Spokane's arena that's a neutral site.
