07:42 AM ET 10.22 | With less than two weeks remaining on the two-year deal he accepted shortly before Halloween 2007, Tony La Russa explained Wednesday he is not finished with his introspection about whether he will return as manager next season but that he has reached its final chapters. It won't be long," La Russa offered during a break from a planning session at his Animal Rescue Foundation in Danville, Calif. "I think I know where things lead but I want to be sure. I want to be honest. I want it to be genuine."

Tony, if you leave STL, you will be missed.

October 22, 2009  08:20 AM ET

I'm hoping he agrees to coach the Cowboys.

October 22, 2009  08:23 AM ET

I don't think Tony will leave STL on such a down note - losing the way they did. He doesn't strike me as that type of person!

October 22, 2009  08:23 AM ET

Probably a one year deal. That way he can have the 2010 farewell tour.

October 22, 2009  08:26 AM ET

He'll only come back if STL moves spring training from So. Fla. Currently he's been banned from just about every bar and restaurant there. Unless of course he chooses ot do his drinking at home.

Damn he would make a good SF Giants Manager but Bochy and that tool Sabean are entrenched in San Francisco for another couple of years - looser management

That might not be such a bad idea!

and ride into the sunset....right Pale Rider?

October 22, 2009  08:38 AM ET

Sounds like to me that he just wants to enjoy his time off. He's probably lounging back, hitting the sauce and just taking his time.

October 22, 2009  08:58 AM ET

Fair enough! A well thought out, lucid thought process!

October 22, 2009  09:19 AM ET

He still needs to sober up.

October 22, 2009  09:38 AM ET

My guess is that he'll be back next year, as will Duncan.

i was hoping he would join the Raiders staff.

Duncan may or may not come back. He's really upset with management for trading his son and he made that very clear in an interview.

October 22, 2009  10:07 AM ET

Wake me up when he actually makes a decision.

I want more money, I want a drink, no two drinks...leave the bottle.

October 22, 2009  10:16 AM ET

Can't all this wait until after the WS?

Yeah, he did, but he backed off of those comments a couple of weeks ago and acted like he had made peace with management.

You mean he finally looked at his son's .227 BA & noticed the fact that he was immediately dropped to AAA by the Sox ....

.....and shortly thereafter released. Not to mention the fact that my 5 year old son can track a fly ball better than Chris could.
