White: Henderson wanted 'obscene' money

With each passing day, it looks as though the odds of seeing Dan Henderson back in the Octagon are getting slimmer and slimmer. UFC president Dana White recently told MMA Fix, "You never know what's gonna happen, we'll see what happens in time but as of right now, yeah, negotiations are done. "I have a great relationship with him but he was looking for an obscene amount of money," White added.

obscene amount of money? wow Dana thats 2 quotes this week without any F-bombs...what gives, are you sick?

October 22, 2009  08:52 AM ET

So give him Silva and he'll probably come down a bit... You know that is important to him, and stop throwing guys in there against him after 1 big fight... These guys that may have lost to him have done their job and deserve a rematch more then your quest to keep putting new guys in there.

I agree here. I think people give too much credit to Belfort for beating a declining Franklin. I don't mean Franklin sucks but ever since he left MW he just hasn't had any impact at all, and never has he looked like a title contender since then.

Silva will not engage in a wild brawl with Belfort which doesn't work to Belfort's favor, Silva will wait and counter and he could end it in the first if he so chooses. I agree that if he gave Hendo the title shot that Hendo would stay and my guess is...that probably is Hendo's real sticking point, not the money.

Let Henderson get an Obscene real job then in the real world. He could be a face model for someone wanting to know how to look after getting hit with an iron skillet in the mug 20 times.
How could MMA and the UFC make it without flat face???

Hendo was told he was next in line after the Bisping fight - or so said Dana the big mouth. And if you believe Hendo (which I do) White also called him after that - and reiterated that Hendo was next in line. Then Ed Soares started whining - Hendo had money issues, so Vitor - who hasn't fought at 185 in the UFC in ages moves to the front of the line. I'm not a Nate fan by any stretch (thanks to his suspension for 'roids) - but he's much more deserving of a shot than Vitor.

Hendo also indicated that during his negotiations with White - when he (Hendo) brought up the fact that he beat Vitor in 2006, White looked like he had no clue that fight happened. Not a huge surprise to me....

It's funny - the UFC earns perhaps $20,000,000 per PPV - but when the fighters want more than 5% of the revenue - they want obscene money. Hendo has earned a big payday. This isn't the first fighter to complain about money (Tito, Randy et al)...

War Hendo.

Yeah, you're right. Unlike EVERY OTHER sports league (face it, that's what the UFC is...) the UFC is correct to give the TALENT (the fighters) less than 10% of the PPV revenue. Yeah, that's how it should be. Fighters with no pension plan, no medical, that the UFC can cut in the middle of their contracts - but those contracts don't allow Couture fight Fedor ... should fight for peanuts.

I know you're bitter Hendo earns more than you - but get over it. He's earned a big payday...

People choose what they want to do in life-where they work where they live who they marry. Flat face Hendo choose to attempt to be an MMA fighter and fight in the UFC. He wasn't forced to choose this vocation or affialiation he picked it. Dana is a business man and he pays justifyibly big dollars to those who draw big crowds.
If Henderson isn't happy move on then and the UFC doesn't miss a beat. It's a priviledge not a right to fight in UFC. Why pay big dollars to someone almost 40 years old who has lost 3 out of his last 8 matches. Now from your comment above I can tell you have limited business knowledge or intelligence(4th grade at best) or an understanding how successful businesses generate capital to cover their vast outlays. Henderson has earned an opportunity to continue to fight on and under the UFC promotional umbrella which has made him a living. The UFC owes him only the chance to continue fighting at what Dana feels he is worth not what Dan thinks he is worth. If you were an executive or successful Cheeze Whiz which I gather you are not you would understand this reasoning. God I hope you don't have kids.

Everytime there's an article about UFC this is the picture shown of Dana White? Why? This picture says to me "Yeah, I just farted"!.

Hey allen, we don't need another XX.

Henderson is a class act.....one of the few in MMA. His record has some losses because he will fight anyone anytime....unlike most of the other "fighters" in MMA.

White is the Don King of MMA.
What more needs to be said.

I wouldn't call White the Don King man. White actually makes the matches people want to see instead of just using them for his own personal gain. King never cared about the fighters or the fans, just his pocket book. Yeah Henderson has only lost to the greats.

That's the problem with MMA, the fighters deserve more than they are given, chump change.

Then let them get a second job. It's not like they are highly educated and eloquent spokesman and have a future outside of getting their brains and faces smashed in. They are pugs using their bodies as weapons for a pay check. Take what you get and be happy, you are a pug.
