Bobby Labonte is a strong candidate for one of the two TRG [#71 team] Racing rides. Reed Sorenson is the favorite for the vacancy at Braun Racing [Nationwide Series ride] and David Stremme's name has been mentioned for the #34 Front Row Motorsports car [currently a Chevy] (where he would be reunited with crew chief Steven 'Bones' Lane) or in a Nationwide car with Rusty Wallace Inc.

Shame bobby didn't set enough $$ aside to avoid this humiliation.

October 24, 2009  10:37 AM ET

Good Luck.. you're going to need it Bobby.. this is not a way a PC should be ending his career

October 24, 2009  10:55 AM ET

Are any of the rides mentioned any good or basically start and parkers?

October 24, 2009  11:08 AM ET

I question if Bobby was in a decent ride how he would do.
I would pull for him.
Someone said that these COT cars confuse some drivers, what do you guys think?

The young guys who never really raced the old car definitely have an advantage IMO

I have to agree, the COT has frustrated quite a few of the drivers,
including some of the high end boys, but they have adapted to the
Crap of a car, some Still can't get used to it.>just saying

I also would pull for him,one of the good guys.

COT = Crap On Tires

October 24, 2009  03:56 PM ET

TRG typically runs a pretty good organization. The run well in Grand American road racing. However, that is not Cup racing. Bobby could be a huge asset to them.

October 24, 2009  08:38 PM ET

you can call the COT anthing you want. but the car was built for safety and is not meant to be glued to the track like the old car. it makes drivers actually have to drive the car so the best will rise to the top. as for bobby maybe he just wants to be driving cause he enjoys it and while he still can. His brother terry did it, bill elliot is still driving and i believe mark martin also ran limited schedules with varying success.

i think the COT is one huge, and i mean HUUUUUUGE piece of schaatt!!! its ruined it for me, the races are boring as heck follow the leader racing now! i prefer nationwide races, the cars are what they should be and the racing is good!
the year mark martin ran that partial schedule, anyone else notice he ran great in the older car, and he ran like crap in the COT??

TRG could be good with sponsorship and a decent driver, Front Row is a crap team that is only in the top 35 because they bought the owner points from Earnhardt Ganassi. The Braun Racing Nationwide team is a great team, but still a nationwide team.

October 26, 2009  09:13 AM ET

I can't believe it, is Rusty finally going to get his train wreck son out of the 66 car? That kid has got to be setting an all time record for wrecking cars in all NASCAR series ever recorded.

October 26, 2009  10:12 AM ET

With 3 or 4 cars maybe not returning next year the 71 car would be in the top 35 in owner points. Maybe that will help them find full sponsership for next season.

Actually, Front Row has two cars, and neither are in the top 35.
