07:21 AM ET 07.11 | Budweiser officials are shopping around for their best sponsorship option in NASCAR, a clear indication that the beer company will not sponsor Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports next season, sources confirmed Tuesday. It's expected that PepsiCo Inc., possibly with the Mountain Dew brand or a combination of Pepsi products, will sponsor Earnhardt next season in the No. 5 Chevy [or possibly the No. 8] for Hendrick. And Anheuser-Busch is negotiating with Evernham Motorsports to possibly move the Bud sponsorship to Kasey Kahne's No. 9 Dodge next season.

All good things must come to an end.

July 11, 2007  08:32 AM ET

Pepsi or Mountain Dew instead of Bud? Sounds like hes becoming a good corporate yes man.

July 11, 2007  08:33 AM ET

There is no way that this is going to happen. Bud makes more money off of Dale Jr stuff then they do there own beer.

July 11, 2007  08:41 AM ET

But they spend a ton, too. And if Jr is trying to break ties with the past and start forging his own legacy, this is a key way to do so.

July 11, 2007  08:49 AM ET

Personally Bud in the HMS stable, probably wouldnt look right now, its really a DEI thing even though in the past it was on the #25. I think Mountain Dew from Pepsi is a great choice, DW said it was going to be a drink besides I heard Pepsi lost a contract somewhere so they have some money to throw around. Sorry Jr. fans I guess you will be going non-alcoholic, bright side now your kids can drink it.

July 11, 2007  08:51 AM ET

I am okay with Kahne driving the bud - thats cool. Maybe they would stop putting corny movie titles on his car. I thought there might be Adidas coverage on Jr's car too.
As big a Nascar fan I am, the only true # 8 we should salivate about is Cal Ripken Jr's.....read the recent Sport Illustrated article on the most famous players by number. Amen

July 11, 2007  08:52 AM ET

I can throw another #8 out there, but I am 100% biased. Go Steve Young!

But seriously, jackmanrob has hit it on the nose.

July 11, 2007  09:40 AM ET

Such a move is not surprising and actually a good marketing tool. I remember back to the interview when Jr and Henricks appeared together announcing Jr's coming to HMS. Henricks made comments then that suggested HMS already had good sponsorships, but left the door open for "possible" negotiation. Even Jr. alluded to that. Now if Bud goes to Everham, that solves two issues...appealing again to the younger generation (using Casey Kahne) and providing a sponsorship that could allow Everham to better support his teams efforts. This could also creat e some REAL competition for HMS in terms of better equipment for Everham. Great idea!

July 11, 2007  09:53 AM ET

It'd be better to put the Bud logo on Sadler's car instead. At least he looks old enough to drink the stuff.

July 11, 2007  09:54 AM ET

But think of all the commercials with the 40-somethings taking advantage of a wasted Kasey Kahne!

July 11, 2007  10:03 AM ET

Steve Young who? (haha)
They could just replay the ad where Kasey clips a tel pole while chased by **** women. Buds a dependable sponsor and has been around for a long time...great for any team. At least they wont change their name like the telcoms. They could have saved Ginn.

July 11, 2007  10:09 AM ET

Go Bud//// 1 loser to another

July 11, 2007  10:37 AM ET

Damn!!!!! Well Bud will have a difficult time trying to sponsor Kasey because Dodge is already there and they have a contract, dont think they will want to give that up. Bud could probably go to Ginn seeing as how they are a bit strap for cash, probably would help out alot. Just probably need to find a marketable driver.

July 11, 2007  10:56 AM ET

Going to have a lot of girls switching from Mike's Lemonade to Bud.

July 11, 2007  10:59 AM ET

Heres my opinion. I look at this and think---- yea, It makes since. Kasey Kane is a more marketable nascar driver than JR. I know you guys will argue about this but think about it. What market does JR and Bud currently have??????? The male market. Do you see a bunch of men drinking Bud Select???? NO!!!! Bud needs to look towards the female market where they are almost non existant in... Kasey, though I hate to say it, is probably Nascars future and is a perfect poster boy for advertising.

Dont be to harsh on me guys...

July 11, 2007  11:46 AM ET

I kind of see what you're saying, but to me I just can't see drinking a beer based on Kasey Kahne. Most men see him as a girly man, and who wants to be associated with that? Budweiser and Bud Light are the most popular selling beers in the entire world. And honestly, the demographic buying that beer is men. I don't think Bud can say, "okay we've got the men locked up, let's go get the women." Women either like beer or they don't. I'm not sure Kasey Kahne will make a woman a beer drinker.

July 11, 2007  12:26 PM ET

Didn't Budweiser used to be a Hendrick Sponsor before they sponsored Junior? I seem to remember Ricky Craven and Wally Dallenbach driving for Hendrick with Bud sponsorship.

July 11, 2007  12:29 PM ET

The #9 car isn't supposed to have Bud on it, it's supposed to be Red with Coors on it

July 11, 2007  12:29 PM ET

I love Dale Jr but because of my beliefs, I do not buy the Bud gear. If Dale Jr switches to Pepsi or Mountain Dew, I will be buying a bunch of Dale Jr gear. A lot of teens who want to support Dale Jr can't really wear those kind of clothes in school. Dale Jr would appeal to a much larger audience than he can ever imagine with Budweiser.

Wow, you're just like the Pettys.
