This is a good story. This is one reason I like the Pats. Guys that play spot roles are so important to the success of thier Franchise. I still want A$ante Samuel in Dallas tho.

why would you want Samuel in Dallas... as a fan, no - we don't want to overpay a guy who had a decent season on a very good club - we could use those cap dollars on somebody else....

A slap on the face to Asanti Samuel!!

No....No....No....Brown was signed for a 1yr probably almost minimum NFL salary for a veteran. A$ante wants some big money. I think that if Tom Brady would take some of his Money and give it back to the team they could sign him........Phat Chance!

Sweet. Nothing like having old man Troy around for another season. He epitomizes the team's run in this half decade and in my opinion was the MVP of the 01 (first SB) season. If it wasn't for him they would not have gotten things rolling. As for Samuel; This has nothing to do with him.

Sure it has something to do with Samuel- clearly, this is insurance for the Samuel hold out. Troy Brown is a proven CB and will undoubtedly fill in for Asante without missing a beat.
Yes, that was sarcasm. But in seriousness I think Troy deserves a roster spot and I like this move, even if we're overflowing with WRs.

I say assante take the 8million have a monster year..probably win the superbowl.....and then remove all doubt....they would be glad to either pay him or trade him when his value is either higher or lower....right now he seems to worth about 8 million a yr....

Are you really just some fat dude?
Troy Brown is a class act and I'm happy to see him back for one more season. Talk about value. I believe he was a ninth rounder way back when.
I'm sure he's figuring he'll be in line for one more ring.
Nero's right. This has nothing to do with Samuel.

The thing most people are forgetting about the franchise tag is the pressure it puts on a player. Samuel might play great 12 games then get his knee knocked out returning an interception. Then, he's on the verge of no longer being under contract, and hold on, let me check how much that would **** up his money....
Ok, yeah, a lot.
I can't really blame him for holding out when every pat's news report is about how they've signed yet another receiver. I suspect Tom Brady is drinking their blood or something. How many receivers does a team need.
The patriots continue to baffle me. Pricks.

This is kinda like the Tampa story...Really, how many WR's do you need? I understand that he's a face of the franchise, and I'm sure he could still start for many teams, but unless the Pats and Brown are just ensuring he's going to retire a Pat, then this is a waste of cap space.

I'm glad Troy Brown's back.
The Pats really don't need Brown at WR, but he's a versatile player (something Belichick values) and they're showing some loyalty to him and the fans by giving him a chance to find some role on the team. My guess is that Brown took some sort of veteran low or minimum salary deal, which usually has very very low cap impact, so it probably didn't cost them too much capwise to do this. So I don't really think this is like the Tampa QB situation.
I also think that they need to consider the Moss acquisition a gamble that might not pay off. If they end up releasing him, suddenly the Pats aren't so loaded up at WR, particularly if they had also let Troy go.

This proves how greedy the Patriots are. once somebody joins the Patriots, its like they never leave! Even if theyre not necessary, they dont leave! Dillon, Faulk, and Larry Izzo werent traded or signed. The only one who managed to leave was TE Daniel Graham. I would have liked to see Troy Brown go to another team. But most of all i want to see Asante Samuel traded. A backup receiver and a second rounder would be the best trade for him.

Its always good to see a veteran player retained by the team. Its the least Patriots can do in exchange for what 'All' roles Brown played for the Patriots organization. I am curious to see what role he plays with the Patriots this year. Nothing will amaze me since we know he is an amazing football player.

Last season Troy Brown turned down an offer to play for the Saints to take a lesser offer to stay with the Pat's because his kid's asked him to.
He's a class act and I don't think that proves the Pat's are greedy. Smart maybe, but not greedy.

i love troy and the way he carries himself and all that he has done for the pats, but i really don't see what role he can play this year, welker will be the slot wr,we don't need him as a punt returner, it will be a hard sell for him to make the team this year...and wingman , what the hell are you talking about with the pats being greedy, you don't even make any sense,go watch the food network or something, you seem pretty clueless

They wont need to find a spot for him, trust me, he'll find one himself.
How many WR do teams normally carry? Will Gaffney, or Caldwell be given a spot over Brown? I doubt it. Injuries also could play into his role before the season gets underway.
