Stevenson: Fisher strangely slippery

Joe Stevenson talked to mma.fanhouse.com about his bout with Spencer Fisher this past weekend at UFC 104 and says that something didn't seem right when he was going for takedowns: "Honestly, I though (the UFC) forced him to take the fight. Stylistically, I was like 'Really? Dude, are you serious? Alright, happy birthday!' I executed a lot of things right, but I felt like I couldn't get the takedown and I was making excuses, 'Man he feels slippery, he feels oiled up' and I felt like he was. But why even say anything like that, that's my fault for even taking it there. Yeah, he definitely put some lotion on this morning or last night took a bath. Something was different about him, maybe he had a lot of garlic though, that can make you slippery as well. Or it could just be in my head, that's why I [just] need to improve myself."

October 28, 2009  11:18 AM ET

Kind of a babbling statement.

October 28, 2009  11:22 AM ET

He was kind of apologetic at the same time but he is bordering on Baby J waters!

OK GSP Sackriders, easy now the greasegate was put to sleep a while ago...GSP turned down the rematch

come on joe u won the fight

October 28, 2009  01:32 PM ET

huh????ok...slippery..but you destroyed him.

October 28, 2009  02:23 PM ET

He won and should NOT of stated this to the media but being a fighter myself that believes in integrity, even if I did win a fight but thought the other guy was somehow dishonest (oiling up), I would have at least called it out in fighter's circles, if for anything to let HIM know that I know he cheated and STILL lost. Stating this kind of stuff to the media withOUT proof (like the greasing of GSP shoulders by his trainer and subsequent rub off (which doesnt work with petroleum jelly)), is just in bad form.

Hey kid, be quiet the grown ups ate talking! Let's see, a rematch against Penn where he would NO DOUBT own Baby J again.... or fights against other true welter weights whom still seem to lack in comparison to GSP's all around skill set!

agreed.. the last thing i want to see is another bj v gsp fight.....i'm totally over it. there are plenty of other better fights.

Didn't Joe win the fight? I mean seriously he crushed Fisher. Why would you even bring anything up after you completely dominate and annihilate someone.

Shut up your sore winner.

Joe's been on a weird-kick lately. For his last 3-4 fights, he's just acted weird before and after. I used to like the guy... but all of the sudden he makes no sense.

Maybe his opponent greased. If so, either say you think he did or ****. Why come out with a half-hearted accusation? It just makes you and the sport look bad.

Total domination... something i didn't expect honestly. Fisher's not a favorite of mine, but I had foreseen a more even match up than what we got.

What events have you been in? BTW, this whole post by T&R is stupid. What dos this have to do with anything? Joe won the fight easily (one of the first times I've seen Spence get man handled that bad), and this is a non-issue. Not to mention, I don't think Miletich trained fighters would grease. Too much pride in that camp.

Joe says he doesn't want to go there, then does? Really, what's the point? Hey Joe, people do sweat you know!
And your comment about garlic...............???????????????

October 29, 2009  04:25 PM ET

yeah those were sure some slippery elbows :)

October 30, 2009  11:56 AM ET

the reason you would bring up the situation is so the the officials will pay closer attention to the possibility of this type of cheating in the NEXT fight.

just because jds won the fight doesnt mean that he should let cheating go unaddressed.
