Bob Knight contacted IU athletic director Fred Glass late Wednesday to inform him that he would not attend his Nov. 6 induction ceremony into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame. Glass said Knight said he was concerned the media interest in his attendance would take away from others being inducted. Along with Knight, Steve Downing, Katrin Koch, Joe Norman, Mike Rabold, Alan Somers and Jerry Yeagley are also entering the Hall of Fame.

In other words F U Indiana.

As I have no idea whatsoever who the other inductees are, Coach Knight may just be right on this one.

October 30, 2009  07:31 AM ET

Aww ... I was hoping he'd be there to throw out the first chair.

October 30, 2009  08:13 AM ET

Screw that old mean hateful silver haired prick!!

Joe Norman lives 20 mins away from me. He was a standout football player in the late 70's and had an injury shortened career with the Seattle Seahawks

BTW, Happy Birthday Bob!

It's Coach Knight, an Amish guy, and an ear of corn

Knight is wrong on this issue. He belongs in the IU HOF, and should put aside his differences with the University for one night. Not only that, but his absence will generate more media interest and comment than if he shows up.

October 30, 2009  08:44 AM ET

He''s concerned about getting choked up.

October 30, 2009  09:05 AM ET

I dont blame Bobby a #Q$%#@$ or even a chair throwing q#$%#!!$#%! $%$%$#!$# %BIT
for not attending. He belongs in the HOF but that does not mean kiss and make up.

Knight is a terrible human being and a miserable man. He was a good coach while at Indiana for 23 years the last 7 were very average because he didn't get the players once the kids knew he was an idiot and no fun. Let him in the Hall of Fame for what he did as a coach. But put him in the Hall of Shame for his abusive foul mouthed battery of people around him. Simply one of the worst miserable pricks around.

So true. He's trying to sound like he is doing it for the other inductees but this drips of selfishness after turning down their settlement offer.

He was a great coach. A jerk at times and someone I could never have played for, but the man deserves his recognition. I just can't help but to see this as a bit hypocritical of IU for some reason considering the way he went out of there. Maybe I'm confused and wrong, but something seems a bit off.

He will still steal the show in absentia.

Excellent research, VFH.

Jerry Yeagley is the best soccer coach in america. i know you guys don't care and socccer isn't a sport or whatever but dude won 6 national championships, and he like coach knight holds the D1 record for most wins in his sport.

Knight does not know how to act civil. He is a complete ass and the problem was no one ever called him that and everyone always kissed his. Knight is a complete undeserving jerk and a blowhard.

Not a question of caring... Coach Yeagley obviously deserves recognition (as do the other inductees) for their contributions to the university. I do think that Coach Knight thinks (properly so) that their achievements and recognition would be diminished by his presence. And, of course, the leering press would insure that to be so.
