Las Vegas could be moving down the court a little faster on a 20,000-seat downtown sports arena. That's what Mayor Oscar Goodman said at his weekly press conference, following up on his plans to have the Las Vegas City Council next week look at an exclusive contract with The Cordish Companies to start planning it out. Goodman said he had worked hard to get NBA officials and owners interested in the arena.

Las Vegas would have by far the biggest home court advantage in the NBA, what with all the distractions visiting players would get into the night before the game...

Las Vegas Kings...

Don't you usually do things like this the other way around? First get the team and then build the stadium?

If you build it, they will come.....hopefully

Vegas hasn't had a professional basketball team since Tark left UNLV.

Las Vegas? Gambling? Who will be "the Pete Rose of Basketball"?

Got to agree. Sure the Maloof brothers will jump at the chance to move the Kings to Vegas.

The novelity would wear off so fast that the 20k seat stadium would only see about 6k in people per game. To many distractions for any sport other than boxing to succeed in Sin City.

Take the Clippers... just modify the jerseys a bit and they can be the Chippers... which is where they belong... in the wood chipper...

That team would make ALOT of $$$$
- every hotel would buy lux suites-

I would prefer they move one of the perennially bad teams to Las Vegas rather than startup yet another team. There isn't enough talent to support yet another team it's already spread too thin.

I think that's what they'd do-

Cause if they started another franchise- they'e need 2.

Yeah it would be a relocation effort for sure.

You made a good point in your earlier post about the money to be made in Vegas. That franchise would clean up in the luxury suites alone. You would think hotels would invest in them to impress their clientele. Especially the high rollers.

Completely agree, who'd choose a basketball game over the Casinos?

October 30, 2009  09:28 AM ET

The Las Vegas Sinners? All the thugs in the nba will wanna play there. And all the trouble players are gonna get in................ this is a great idea! The all star game was a hit there

To tell you the truth....I would......then i would go to the casino after the game!

As soon as the NBA figures out how to keep players out of the casinos and Brothels; the league will put a team in Vegas. Most of the players frequent Vegas during the off season but are accompanied by their wives or girlfriends, imagine a scenero where different teams visiting nightly without the extra baggage and they are allowed to roam freely? There are also other elements in Vegas (organized crime, drugs, gangs) that are much more prevelant than in other cities that would ruin a wondering athletes life if all thoughts are not applied.

No Way!!

The NBA regular season would turn into the NBA playoffs! Every game would be fixed! Vegas!Ru Kidin me?

The Maloofs have been trying to move the Kings to Vegas for years. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if "somehow" the league approved the move. They already own the Palms Hotel and casino. With 4 teams currently in California, moving the Kings to Vegas would be a piece of cake. The only problem would be keeping the players in check.
