Despite an arrest Thursday for driving while impaired, Sprint Cup Series driver AJ Allmendinger will compete in Sunday's Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. In an e-mail distributed internally at Richard Petty Motorsports --a copy of which was obtained by The Observer and ThatsRacin.com -- the organization said Allmendinger's status with the team had not changed.

that would be too good to be true

They might have to take a points penalty for improper equipment after they install the breathalyzer ignition lock device on Allmendinger's car. Although an in-camera shot of him blowing into the tube after a pit stop would be pretty awesome.

I can see it now, lap 15 and Dinger gets tangled with Mikey, the pace car arrives with two cops and a breathalyzer.

According to North Carolina Law concerning DUI convictions, he will be suspended in NC as well as whatever state his Drivers License is in after the court hearings, etc are over with! Like to see how he plans on driving a race car around the country with a suspended license. Dumb mistake on his part but will probably walk away with community service and fines.

Dumb stunt AJ! But now you're qualified to drive for Mikey. At least you didn't run.

October 30, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Poor AJ, after seeing Mikey get away with it twice in a year, he gets busted.
At least he didn't pull a Kurt Bush and start yelling at the cops!

Dover Motorsports shuts down Memphis track:

Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced that it was ceasing all operations at Memphis Motorsports Park and that it would not be promoting any events in Memphis in 2010. As previously announced, the Memphis facility had been under an agreement of sale to Gulf Coast Entertainment but Gulf Coast was unable to secure financing. "This was a difficult decision for us, but one that ultimately was dictated by economics," said Denis McGlynn, President and CEO of Dover Motorsports. "We greatly appreciate the many years of dedication shown by our Memphis employees and their efforts to make Memphis such a great destination for the racing community - from racing fans and drivers to sponsors, team owners and sanctioning bodies. For all concerned, including the Memphis community, it is truly sad to see Memphis Motorsports Park taken off the racing schedule. NASCAR has approved the realignment of our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events from Memphis Motorsports Park to our Nashville and Gateway facilities." The realigned events and dates are as follows:

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Nashville Superspeedway, April 2, 2010.

NASCAR Nationwide Series, Gateway International Raceway, October 23, 2010.

who cares...probably half the people who go to races have had a DUI at sometime or another. after a rockingham race, the police walked down US1 and knocked on windows with a portable breathalyzer....took MANY people away.

October 30, 2009  01:42 PM ET

There's a party at Michael's house after the Dega race.. all the beer and meth you want.. A.J. and Jeremy are suppling everything.. so you better get there early before its all gone
