Is this a loan thing or a permanent deal? I've heard as many conflicting things from Blanco as I've heard in the media.

The way I have read everything was that this is a permanent move. Doesn't really make sense to me, unless he just really wanted to go back to Mexico. That I can understand, but is there really that much of a difference between MLS and the Mexican 2nd division?

I've never really been a fan, but I know he was a good asset to have in MLS. Oh well.

Boy, the MLS is really going strong. People leaving the professional league here to go to a lower level team in Mexico.

Talk about an epic failure of a league, I see them going under in 2-3 years and everyone bemoaning why soccer can't succeed in the US.

Then again, the only reasons why kids in the states would play soccer professionally.

1. Not big enough to play football.
2. Not tall enough to play basketball.
3. No eye-hand coordination so they can't play baseball.
4. Can't skate and therefore can't play hockey.

The way I see it is:

1. Not dumb enough to play American football
2. Need a challenge not provided in basketball
3. Not fat enough to play baseball
3a. Too athletic to play baseball
3b. Video games give enough hand-eye coordination to be a baseball all-star, therefore conquered all baseball talents at age 2
4. People play hockey still?
5. They don't feel the inferiority complex that you do and have built up self-esteem from not being picked last in gym class

I have read about this in a few places and it sounds like he just wants to go back to Mexico and finish out his career there.

Not sure why he would go to a second division team, though?

it is a permanent deal...

however he has an escape clause if the Fire were to offer him a deal, say next year.....

unlikely though, The Fire have played a decent portion of this season without him... his creativity will be missed, but i would like to see the Fire look for more of an athletic creative mid...

Thanks for clearing that up Otergod.

Come up with something better than just copying.....

Although I don't expect anything better, but at least put in an effort, that's all I ask.

That is the biggest load of **** I have seen on these boards in a long time. I played baseball, basketball and soccer growing up from about 9 onward through college. Baseball was by far the least challenging, and in boring as all snot. Thankfully being a lefty I spent most of my time pitching where I was involved on every pitch. When I hear people talk about soccer being too boring, I assume they have never sat through the snore-fest that is current MLB.
Basketball was fun, and fast and I enjoyed it but used it primarily for sprint drills in the offseason for soccer.
In reality most kids stop playing soccer because it is far more demanding than pretty much any other sport we play in the states, with the exception of lacrosse and hockey. As the kids progress in ages and become faster and stronger, many realize they don't have the lower body coordination to do well. Humans evolved to have hand eye coordination, we throw sticks and rocks for a living, but nature never asked us to kick a rock at our prey. A good midfield player in a soccer match will run between 5.5-6 miles a game. All the while keeping the legs strong enough to make pinpoint passes and shots etc.. That is impressive to do, if you don't think so come on out and I'll run your *ss ragged.
In short I think you need to pay attention to how many pro-athletes are in to soccer. Welker and Moss doing soccer drills in NE (google it). Moss asked Welker his secrets for running clean routes and Welker said it was soccer that helped him the most. Kobe and KG and their love of soccer. Shaq apparently is a Benfica fan. Steve Nash's assistance with the slam dunk competition a few years back chipping the ball up to be dunked was classic. I am sure there are more.

what i find funny is how these trolls use the same lines over and over again, yet they fail to recognize this point...

many of the pro-athletes are in fact fans of soccer.... all are surprised how difficult the sport truly is... yet you have trolls who ramble off ignorance acting as though they are superior b/c they look down on the sport... well congrats Schadenfreude, you are a minority in this world..

October 30, 2009  09:52 AM ET

The only reason why a troll would stop by to trash the game is because they feel threatened by it. If a game was really that irrelevant to you, then why spend your valuable time trying to bash it? Stupid troll.

As for Blanco, I'm a bit surprised he's stepping down to a Mexican 2nd division club. He played well for Mexico, and he's still the Fire's most dangerous threat, could he really not find work elsewhere? I think Fire fans and the league will miss him more than they realize, but nonetheless it is time for the Fire to start a new chapter.

Because watching you guys get so worked up about it is funny.

Seems like a well heeled point considering the NHL is buying up teams to save them from BK, the NFL has yet to find a way to return a team to the 2nd biggest market in the country, the NBA saw one of their teams move to OKLAHOMA fuck1ng City after decades in a city which now has a thriving MLS team, and MLB has, well the Marlins, Royals and Pirates...

Meanwhile MLS is expanding nearly every year with investors (including professional athletes from nearly every sport) lined up waiting to buy in to the league

Otergod and Special One, I honestly just laugh when I see statements like that. Obviously these guys are clueless about the game. Guys like Kobe, Nash and so on are athletes that appreciate and know how hard it is to be a pro-soccer player. They have great respect for the game because they know it is the greatest game in the world. Like you said homeboy is a minority in this world!!!
