Phil Brown, the Hull City manager, is expected to be out of a job if his side lose at Burnley on Saturday as the noose around his neck tightens amid growing turmoil at the troubled Premier League club. Brown appears to be fighting a losing battle to remain as manager.

seems i was right.... and so was dynamo....

how very strange that two conflicting sides could both be right...

i simply stated Brown was not let go yet, and Dynamo said he was but will coach this weekends game....

also how much would Brown love Jozy if he came in and scored the winning goal(s) in the game??

He would love him a lot. Especially if he doesn't tweet about it afterwards.

Anyway, he gets a chance now but I get a feeling it will be a short lived one.

So he has to win this game to keep his job...what about the next one?

Seems pretty damned short-sighted to make such a decision because of one result. If this is true, it explains the chaos at Hull and why they might as well forget about becoming a big-time club anytime soon.

JozyAltidore17: Saved my coaches job this weekend with those 3 goals. Look for me to start tearing it up.

JozyAltidore17: I'd like to apologize to Hull City and our fans, and most importantly Phil Brown. My comments were out of line.

I think that may be the problem... their payroll is such they need the premiership. They get dropped, they better call in Publisher's Clearing House to sell everyone on that squad or they will be verifiably screwed. No way they can even pay 50% of their payroll in the Championship.

typically that happens.... teams going down lose alot of their bankroll players to either teams in the top league, or teams just going up....

and then there is the question of who you put in brown's place? i'm not defending the man or saying he should hold onto his job, but often when a club abd it's fans start calling for a coach's head, it rolls and you end up with an even less competent man at the helm.

Less competent than Brown? I'm trying to imagine...

Maybe the Troll in the Blanco thread?

maybe or perhaps he is trying to make chicken salad out of chickens--t? i imagine that he is operating on a shoestring budget. with the chaos there who might you attract to take over?

Can you imagine how out of control the whole situation is at Hull City is right now? I suspect that the incoming director figured nobody is getting a point at Turf Moor after getting beat by Wigan, so they didn't want to saddle the new coach with another bad loss to kick off the transition. Take a look at the size of the roster at Hull City sometime - besides the 9 strikers - it looks like Keane's roster with Sunderland just before he walked away.

When the bookies take your name off the sack race betting line, they've got information, usually from inside the team.

Hull has major financial problems too. They've overspent on mediocrity which will get you crushed on and off the field every time.

All the things people have pointed out about the chaos at Hull and the ovespending and the talent level are certainly valid. But Brown still out to be able to get a bit mroe out of them than he has. I don't recall the exact figures, but the numbers over something like the last 30 games are atrocious--very,very few points taken.

i would think 1 more week of betting would be solid....

does Brown win this game and keep his job, or lose both ??:D

trick question: Jozy nets a brace to win the game, Brown wins but is still let go :D

October 30, 2009  12:04 PM ET

perhaps Redbulls new coach??

We need to quit feeding that tw@t's ego. I'm not even bothering with him.

It's funny. I've said this about responding to them several times. But today is one of those days when someone is going to be my target. I'd rather it be some troll than someone I really don't want to offend.

All trolls aside, I have a slightly different impression of Phil Brown than just being an incompetent fool in the matter of "managing" a football club. While most businesses do operate on some bizarre form of The Peter Principle, don't forget this is one of Big Sam's boys, which is why I always focus on the size of Hull City's squad and the transfer velocity at such a small club. Also, figure in that curious move for Jimmy Bullard - paying millions to Fulham for a player in need of yet another knee surgery (I don't think Bullard has played for them beyond a substitute).

Brown was at Bolton with Big Sam when Allardyce was accused of taking "bungs" (backhanders) from agents for signing certain players. Two agents were secretly filmed, each separately claiming that they had paid a kickback to Allardyce through his son, Craig.

Notice how every time that Redknapp and Allardyce - and now Brown - land at a club that the finances go further South than a Mexican border? I don't think that Phil Brown is incompetent; I think he's as crooked as a corkscrew.

I've never rated him as a manager. Like I've said before, this guy could **** up a cup of coffee. Is he crooked? You make a compelling argument for such. The Allardyce connection is tough to ignore. Interesting you bring up Harry Redknapp as well. He does have a bit of Cockney slimeball to him, now that you mention it. I could see him being a mid-level gangster in a Guy Ritchie or Matthew Vaughan flick.
