Some NBA execs believe Donaghy's claims

Ask around the NBA this week and you won't find too many people outside the league office dismissing Donaghy's claims. The biggest problem the NBA has in trying to squash, defuse and discredit anything disgraced referee Tim Donaghy says is that many of its own players, coaches and front office executives are predisposed to believe the guy. I read it last night and was laughing, and said, "Yep, that's about right," one team executive said. "I don't think anyone is going to dispute the possibility." If the NBA's own front-office people believe this, then how can fans simply dismiss it?

The article doesn't say much... uh, maybe reference it back to the original source?

If this is the perception, no way will they put a team in Vegas. On the other hand if they can make more money anything can happen. After all it is the bottom line that counts.

Yeah u know....what did he say?

I wouldn't go so far as to yell fix, because they don't have to blow the whole game. All they have to do is "miss" a critical call in the last minute of a close one, and the game has been changed. It may never be proven, but I believe it happens in the NFL as well. All you have to do is take another look at Super Bowl XL.

And that's just it -
whether it happens or not, whether they're IN vegas or not,
it doesn't matter.....
if someone's crooked, they're crooked

I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't care less. Whatever is going on, there is nothing we can do about it? All we can do as fans, players, officials, executives etc., is the best we can with what we have. Next!

You think maybe the Seahawks receivers fixed the out come?

That would explain all those dropped passes.

Now that i think back..........you may be right.

This is just how it is with sports.

IMO the best team wins the finals every time - which is unique out of professional sports.

I believe most refs are ethical and just.

If you believe that, intelligent dialogue probably isn't an option. I refuse to debate with the visually impaired.

Yeah because its kinda hard to get lucky against an opponent during a 7 game span.

We have all deep down known this stuff to be true already. We just don't complain because we know it makes the game more entertaining. We know 80% of those 4th quarter runs are engineered buy the ref holding the whistle on one team and blowing it on the other. We know if the refs don't like player or hes not a fan favorite he doesn't get any calls and is quick to be whistled against. We've even seen refs call a bunch of B.S. on the guy who just came off the bench just to even call count out.

Players also know its true to but they get fined if the complain. Players know when they are getting away with murder a'la Kevin Garnett and his illegal screens. Every defender knows when Shaq is in the paint there is no such thing as charging or travel while he shuffle his feet and throw shoulders and elbows to dislodge them out of the way.

None of this crap is new. And just like that chick who already knew her boyfriend was a cheating, we are pissed at the whistle blower for forcing us to stop feigning ingorance and deal with it.

I believe the NBA and the TV networks have been fixing....extending playoff series for years to generate more add revenues from television commercials. They do this through the officials. Who do you think they would rather in the Finals, Portland vs. Orlando or Los Angeles vs. Boston. Lately, it's been a non-factor, because the big market teams have been dominant. But look back to the late 90's, when there was the possibility of a Utah (Salt Lake City) and Indiana (Indianapolis) Finals. Utah locked early, and the Bulls were looking at winning in five. A few bad fouls against Rodman, a few no-calls against Miller and it was a 7 game series, meaniong two more games worth of commercials in Chicago to make up the money lost for having Salt Lake City in the Finals. Look it up yourself, the evidence is there!
