Already Notre Dame is assured of not leaving the state of Texas empty-handed this weekend. Toney Hurd, Jr., a defensive back from Missouri City, Texas, became the 18th player from the Class of 2010 to commit orally to play for Notre Dame, according to multiple online reports. The 5-foot-9-inch, 184-pound Hurd is a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, and the No. 44 cornerback prospect nationally.

Can we assume the Longhorns didn't want the 5'9" midget?

October 31, 2009  09:29 AM ET

A productive Texas trip for Charlie.

does the N in the beginning of this T&R category stand for "Notre Dame"? jeebus!!! every day, when the interns get the category right, there's a story about Notre Dame in here.

If you think a guy who's 5'9" can't play DB in major college, chat with some of the QB's and WR's who had to contend with Terrell Buckley.

Scrubber is just mad because the kid had no interest in his (yet to be identified) team.

October 31, 2009  11:30 AM ET

How is this remotely newsworthy? An undersized 3*. B F D.

October 31, 2009  11:54 AM ET

The #44 cornerback prospect in the nation merits front row in the College section?

Oh - I forgot. (No offense, Stu...)

Yet you cannot resist reading and commenting on each Notre Dame T&R.

What value is a 5'9"(probably 5'7") DB that Texas- A&M- Tech- let get out of the state and is a 3 star rated player.

No one can... That's why there's one every day! Way to go Chuck... Keep em coming!

This recruitment of a 3 star db hardly seems to be deserving of a thread. Must be a slow news day.

October 31, 2009  12:42 PM ET

The last ND thread had 400 posts, keep em coming!

They had some interest in him but it's a position they are loaded at currently with the entire starting backfield sophs and sophs/frosh backing them up.

Plus They already have 3 more signed and they are all taller at 6"3, 6 and 5"11. However Akina is not unwilling to take a 5'9 guy if he can play. They had Ryan Palmer just leave and he was generously listed at 5"10 (measured under 5'9 at the combine). Hurd is similar to him and Palmer was an all Big 12 performer.

The domer secondary needs all the help it can get. Congrats to the kid on the scholly. Just because he is "only" a 3*, doesn't mean he can't become a big time player people.

Aggy offered but ended up the bridesmaid. He had 14 offers including Tenn, Az, Cal, Auburn, Oklahoma. He can play and he has a 3.6 gpa so he's smart. Wouldn't be surprised to see him move to the other side of the ball or return kicks since he's a 4.4 guy.

Agreed. I'm sure Chuck will land at least one more recruit on this visit to Texas

Anytime you get a quality recruit out of the state of Texas it is a mini "coup" since there are several quality programs there. Just my opinion...
