Mowbray on Celtic hot seat

The Celtic chairman, John Reid, has admitted that concern regarding the team's stuttering performances under Tony Mowbray is prevalent among board members and not just supporters. Reid, speaking at Celtic's annual general meeting today, was forced to respond to a series of questions from shareholders who have been concerned with team form in 2009. Celtic, then managed by Gordon Strachan, lost a seven-point lead from January in handing the championship back to Rangers.

Motherwell this is your year!!!!

Scottish football is absolute rubbish. When an unknown Romanian team comes in and stomps all over the champion by a score of 4-1, there are some problems. I wish they would just disband so people would stop with all of the stupid rumors. And Mowbray is awful. Why would you want someone who's team was relegated from the Premier League last year? Shockingly stupid.

October 31, 2009  11:25 AM ET

This was a loaded hire from the start. When GS and Nakamura left at the same time, this was going to be a rebuilding year. Even with a fair amount of young talent, the team lost it's heart and soul. Mowbray was never intended to be a long term solution. He had enough cache to satisfy the supporters being a former Bhoy SFWA Manager of the Year, but never was really given the keys to the car.

a 4th division (4th or 3rd i dont recall) STOMPED RM....

i dont disagree with you. Odd when people see our boys being scouted there alot of them are like "ooooh its in europe" but how many players from the SPL actually make the move to better things??

Nguyen has better odds of being picked up in the V-League

Jamie Trecker over at Fox Sports wrote a pretty interesting piece on the state of affairs in the SPL and says it offers a warning shot for MLS: "Americans have long been influenced by ideas from Scotland, Ireland and England. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of British coaches in America, plugging away at the youth level. And, if we've taken to heart some of the ideas about how to succeed from these folks, we'd better be prepared to learn from their mistakes as well."

It's worth a sniff. Heard that things are so bad in the SPL right now that either Rangers or Celtic could be had for about 50 mil plus 30 mil in debt servicing. Legendary clubs, mind you, being swallowed up by the English game.

Looks like Dempsey potted himself another goal against Liverpool ... put the nail in the coffin 3-1, so who belongs upfront as a striker for the USMNT?

Goodbye, Phil Brown, you can now return to being Big Sam's baggage hound or another of Harry Redknapp's bookmakers; I swear the Tom Wilkinson character in RocknRolla is Old Harry, right down to the bigotry:

Haha! I was just picking a random team! Honestly, it would just be nice to see a new champion over there.

God dang it! Someone please do something about Rafa. The idiot has to go. And he has to go now. This is ridiculous. Only positive is that Clint got a goal. Other than that, I'm pissed.

Hodgson exploited their weaknesses today. He does it to every big team in the EPL by applying all kinds of high pressure on the flanks and clogging the midfield. Rafa had to know this was a game begging for production on loose balls and set pieces: Hodgson knew this, Rafa had a flashback to La Liga.

Is the rumor I heard about Rangers and Celtic wanting in to the EPL just rubbish or does it have legs?

On current form, Dempsey and Altidore would seem to be the logical pairing. If I had to guess...

---------------- Howard ----------------
---------- Gooch Demerit ---------
-- Cherundolo Spector --
----------------- Jones ------------------
Holden Donovan --
--------------- Bradley -----------------
----- Altidore Dempsey-------

Well, that got f--ked up good and proper, but you get the idea.

Me too. Is Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the top flight this year? They inspired my all-time favorite newspaper headline after they knocked off Celtic in the Scottish Cup years ago:

You see why I wasn't terribly bothered by your boys beating my boys last weekend. In fairness, you said as much and I think Kopper did as well. It is quite remarkable how wildly inconsitent Liverpool have been the last few years. Do you find yourself drinking more during matches than you used to?

Regarding the derby win giving Rafa some sense of job security and that not necessarily being a good thing. That's what I forgot to add.

I'm 18, so nope. I would if I could. I'm getting sick and tired of this. I was happy with last week, but Rafa should have already been gone. I don't understand it. We must get rid of him to have any chance at salvaging a TOP 4, TOP 4, place. It's going to be very tough getting it being this inconsistent. These two things must happen before the start if February:

1. Rafa must be gone.
2. We must go out on the market and get some depth on the roster. I'm talking some decent players that can come off the bench or fill in when needed. I wish we could bring in Heskey. Another centerback would be nice (the Greek is terrible). Another mid would also be great. Wish we could get Mata. I actually think someone like Russia's Bystrov would do well. He'd bring good width and speed to the team.
