Did NHL take advantage of Gretzky?

Gary Bettman will appear on television to tell everyone he has reached out to Wayne Gretzky to tell him the league would welcome his contribution in whatever way is best for No. 99 whenever it is time for No. 99, but the commissioner will not add $8.2 million to the Phoenix purchase price of $140 million . . . that the league will recoup when it flips the franchise. Gretzky could have filed a motion in court by Friday to stop the sale from going through. He chose not to do so. That's not surprising, given Gretzky's non-confrontational style. The last thing he wants is a public food fight with Bettman or the league (or, for that matter, the Players' Association that called him out behind closed doors over the summer). But make no mistake. Gretzky is outraged. He believes Bettman and the league are taking advantage of him and his nature.

If the Poison Dwarf makes an appearance on television and no-one watches it, would anyone care? It would help to know what channel he intends to use to tell his tale. He can't really take a spot that versus had set aside for lawn bowling now, can he? Too bad for Wayne though...

Below is the article from E.S.P.N.....I think it has nothing to do about his "Nature"..I'm sure he was told by his attorney that the Contract would be rejected in Bankruptcy Court because of its "Non Market" nature. "Dragging this out" means paying exhorbinant attorney's fees without a chance of success.

Wayne Gretzky chose not to file a formal objection in U.S. Bankrupty Court by Friday's deadline, paving the way for the NHL to likely complete its purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes.

The case will be back in court Monday where Judge Redfield T. Baum will review the $140-million bid by the NHL, which is expected to be approved.

Gretzky could have filed a complaint in court Friday given that the league's purchase bid carries no guarantees that he'll get paid back the $8.2 million in deferred salary that he is owed from the Coyotes.

But Gretzky's business manager Darren Blake told the Arizona Republic that The Great One didn't want to be responsible for dragging this out any further.

"If it's in the best interest of the city of Glendale, the organization and the NHL, Wayne wasn't going to be the guy holding up the sale," Blake told the Republic on Friday afternoon.

But it's clear the Gretzky camp isn't pleased that NHL hasn't stepped up to take care of his interests.

"We're not asking the league to cut the check," Blake said. "What we're asking the league to do is to stand up and protect their No. 1 ambassador."

It's not clear just how much money Gretzky could end up getting in court.

The league shouldn't be doing this to the greatest player to ever play.

I will say it, and I hope the little **** hears it and realizes just how horrifying the reality of how low he has sunk truly is:

Worst human beings in all of sports:

1. Gary Bettman
2. Scott Boras
3. The Anti-Christ
4. Most of everyone else

Gee, do ya think so?

KILL THE DWARF.

November 1, 2009  11:47 AM ET

Who is Scott Boras? The name sounds familiar, but I cant quite place it? Can he really be worse than Bettman?

November 1, 2009  11:50 AM ET

I know this is quite a contradiction being who we are talking about , but you think Bettman will find someway to take care of Gretz so as not to lose the games number one ambassador.

Betterman is as good as history - can the Nat Ho L be far behind?

November 1, 2009  06:37 PM ET

Taking 4.1 million bucks a year to coach a crappy team that couldn't make the playoffs if hell froze over, now that's taking advantage of someone.

great players make for bad coaches and gms. some have problems telling others they are great after a career of everyone saying that to them. then there are those who think the game was easy for them, why cant these guys play that way?

Agreed. Boras represents pure evil.

The Poison Dwarf just represents pure incompetence.

"Did NHL take advantage of Gretzky?"

What kind of dumb question is that? Does the sun rise in the East? Does the Pope live in the Vatican? Does it get wet when it rains?

With Judge Redneck T. Baum involved it's anyone's guess how long this will drag out. He loves having his ego stroked. It's the most attention he's gotten in his entire otherwise obscure life.

Gary Bettman needs to resign..... the guy is just awful. I mean, given how great the NHL is right now, the fact that he has done such a poor job of marketing it is just embarassing.... hello?!?! Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin are not the only two players in the league.
